440 machine shop rebuild

Well I hope yal (engine builders) don't stop taking time to help us guys out. I know I don't know my cam spec's and cc's and all that. I too have asked the question that was missing half the parts. Mostly cause I didn'd know better. I do now since I been reading almost everyday on here.

Maybe we should have a format or something we can type in the specs so that way enough information is being presented. It's too bad that people get out of sorts and get into quarrels. This site rock's and we have allot of talented and knowledge for free. It can be frustrating for both the experienced and novice.

I read a lot and still don't know ****, except for the fact I love Mopars :icon_thumright:
 
Yep! 10:1 ratio thanks for the responce and no hood scoop so far and yes I did notice the manofold looked a bit tall. I will do the hood scoop if needed.
 
How did you calculate that? I don't think there was a part number given to identify the pistons, nor the version of heads "chamber size"...
It doesn't say if the block has been decked...... Is it a zero deck height? what are the installed height of the pistons? It could be 8.5:1, 9:1 10:1???? No way to tell from the listed items at all....
A form of sorts would be great for guys to list item description and manufacture part numbers, along with machine work performed for a particular engine build discussion....

The combination of parts is pretty common:
Performer RPM heads (84 cc chamber for the closed chamber heads)
If the pistons are Keith Black, most likely the KB237 flat top, 8cc valve reliefs, 2.067 compression height?
Fel-Pro Head gasket, 0.040" thick is about 9.9cc
Block Deck height of 10.725" puts piston down 0.015", compression would be 9.65:1, decked to zero deck compression would be 9.96:1.
Cam is close to that of other documented 440 flat top, RPM head and Intake builds that make around 520-540 HP.

That is very close indeed not much different here with the exception pistons are not Keith Black but, being a rather small but well known professional race engine machine shop not just locally but in the New England I am confident it will turn out fine. They just finnish building a 440 for another custumer 535 HP I will get all the engine spec. details soon and will post it. This is not a (hodge podge) of components here like a few members here seem to think. Im sure it is going to be a well balanced and running motor. Thanks for the link.

if the machine shop told you to wait till they dyno the motor to get your torque conv.i think you should be happy with the results.that would indicate they care about the final product and are not just blowing smoke.
 
Eddy makes a Performer RPM, and an older one called the 440 performer. The newer one is a better intake. A goode place to start here is with calculated C/R. And to get that we need cyl head cc, piston to deck clearance, piston dish or dome in cc s, head gasket thickness, bore and stroke. I think your over all combo is good, but may need a higher gear ratio. Send in that info and we can calculate your static C/R.

Kinda what I've been saying too.... Nothing worse than thinking you have this or that,,, then plan around this or that,,, and wind up being dissapointed with the results...
 
Dyno results are in on my 440 the first pull was 455 hp @ 4800 rpm and 527 ft lb torque at 3800 rpm 650 carb and 1 3/4" headers
at 32 advanced.--Next pull #2 same set up 464hp @ 5300 and 534 ft lb torque@ 3900-- pull # 5 36 advanced 471hp at 5200 and 536 ft lb torque at 3900 pull #11 with 2" headers and a 850 carb was 485hp @ 5400rpm and torque was 529 @ 4200rpm the highest hp was 489@ 5300 and torque was 537@ 3900rpm Well there you have it a little tuning and tweeking it may do a little better but, Im happy with the results here. The motor sounds great at an idle and right up through the power range. The torque is up over 510 to 520 at 3600 rpm is this the norm? also I thought the oil pressure should have been a little higher than 44psi but they said the brake in oil a lot thinner than standard oil so pressure won't be as high. So anyways thanks for looking at this thread and comments are welcome all
 
Those look like some nice numbers to me. I'm hoping i see something like that when i get my car on the dyno. Bought mine built so I don't know the specifics other than 30 over keith black flat tops, holley 750, street dominator, moroso hi volume pump w/7 qt pan b/m street fighter 3500 stall, redwood clutches, 4.10 rear. It sure feels good on the butt dyno :icon_thumleft: ps sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread! :hijacked:
