I am pleased to be in the company of resaonable and stable people here on fbbo. We will get through this. I don't know how at this point. Anybody see President Obama address this? That was the first time I felt that he is my President. No more words.

I drove a school bus for 10 years after I retired from the phone company......1st question I have is who let the shooter in? All schools have locked doors with a remote controlled electric lock release and the door lock is not released until someone (usually someone in the office) does a visual on who is trying to get access into the school (there is also a intercom system so the office can question the person trying to gain entry). If the shooter was wearing black fatigues, mask, etc....as the reports say that should of set off some alarms....
Think it is good that Michigan passed a law a couple days ago allowing CCW holders (after a little more training) to get an CCW that allows one to "carry" into schools, theaters, etc....
If at least one staff member in that school (or any school for that matter) has that type of CCW the shooter could of been stopped at the door or at least held off till law enforcement arrives.
I think this incident is going to change how security is done at all schools now.....
I can't believe that at all the sites of these mass shootings that have taken place in the last 5 years around the country there was not a CCW holder that could of at least tried to shoot back.
That's the whole idea of "legally" carrying a fire arm...being able to shoot back and until the "legally armed" public starts doing that the so called idea of citizens "carrying" being a deterrent to these types of shootings is not going to work.......
Just my opinion

I agree a bajillion percent. When you have laws that say you cannot have a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, law abiding citizens are going to follow them. What difference do those laws make to the shooter now?

Colorado is a CCW state and sure doesn't seem to have made alot of difference here. Still alot of shootings.

Axis II has been suggested as an explanation of the shooters actions- imagine that. The most avoided, minimized, and complicated diagnosis category known to mental health. Yet one so often involved in homicides. Community mental health centers, psychiatrists, therapists, none are equipped to cope with severely active Axis II disorders of the magnitude where homicides/suicides occur. No one facet of our system is an appropriate place to lay blame. Nor are our police departments able to predict and prevent such actions, a citizen must be suspected with cause, of breaking the law to be detained. Many of these incidences occur with no real priors or the early signs are ignored, victims are often family that fear to press charges, have poor coping skills themselves, or the events are simply non prosecutable. The system allows for severely Axis II affected people to access weaponry. While pathological in their relationships they are smart, cunning and focused and often hold significant control in their personal environments. Many that are considered *high functioning* serve in respected professional roles that utilize the healthier aspects of the disorder. There is no single issue or action that will minimize these mass killings. It is a multifactorial problem that needs to be addressed on all levels of our culture and society. Our world is complicated, these events have no simple preventative.

At the same time there was an attack in China... A man with a knife wounded 22 school kids.. Wounded

Anyone who thinks our guns laws are fine the way they are is in complete denial. Of all the so called advanced countries we have the largets number of guns deaths by far in the world... By FAR

No one is saying to take guns away. Making better laws to protect the public and actually enforcing them is what we need.
What we dont need are more guns. We have tried it that way and it isnt working. If you cant see that you are blind deaf dumb and stupid. Guns enable lesser people. Simple as that and psychological profilling should be part of owning a semi-automatic weapon. What really ticks me off about some of you is all you care about is yourself and make this about youselves.
You can pry my gun from my cold dead hands is the most ignorant statemtent ever made in the face of the atrocities we see far to often now.

If the NRA had any balls at all it would sponsor a bill for gun safety instead of inciting its members to paranoia. I consider the NRA to be the most irresponsible organization in this country. It used to teach hunter safety and proper handling ( my Uncles were all instructors) now its just a lobby for its own profit.

This is not a forum for gun debate. BUT; Crooks and idiots will ALWAYS find access to weapons be it legal or illegal. If someone attacks You or Your children/relatives in a remote or even non remote area...use Your cell phone....call the authorities and say an act of contrition for all concerned because You are close to death. I'll carry My semi automatic handgun everywhere.

I have a ccw I carry all the time I know I should not go onto my kids school with the gun but the places you are not supost to have one is the place I want to have it. I would rather be able to stop the shooter and deal with court as why I had it on school ground then say I wish I had it with me and not in my lock box. Just a thing to think about. One more thing if you carry it right no one will even no its there. I also know some of you wont agree 69 roadrunner

There are no words or actions any of us can take at this time to make things better. But more guns doesnt neccessarily stop the problem we have as a country. I myself own guns for protection & hunting. But if someone with a gun is not in the rite place at the rite time to stop these senseless shootings as they happen then what are the odds that someone could stop it when it happens. As a country we are so worried about terrorism elsewhere that we cant even notice it rite where we live. In my local paper today is a story about a local resident which by the way is employed at a local Army depot. He is being charged with stealing multiple weapons from his the depot such as rifles, ammunition, blasting rounds,& night vision equiptment. Maybe he intended on selling it, but to who & for what purpose? By the way the weapons were found by police not because of the weapons but because they were checking on a stolen tractor. The 2nd amendment was written at a different time & the times have changed. But there has to be a way that can help stop all the violance without infringing on the rights of the law abiding public.

Very sad for the families. Guns & wack jobs just don't go together. Sadly this will continue in the States.

It's not about gun rights

:iamwithstupid: For those who are trying to make this a political forum discussion, there is a place for that... This isn't the place to have a gun rights discussion either, but I will add, Any person/persons that is "so fucked up", to commit a cowardly vial Hannis despicable senseless act", like this killing an unarmed & defenseless classroom full of 4-6 y/o Kindergarten age children, his mother & other unarmed defenseless adults, "there's no gun law, that would ever make any difference ever" , a criminal will find away around the laws, they always do & always have, they would find a way to either get/acquire them illegally from other despicable criminal underground sources or steal them to commit these Hannis crimes, or use some other devise like a bomb or something just as deadly.... There is absolutely no rational reasoning for these type of fucken sick criminal minded people, you can't ever justify why these people snap... The Second Amendment, is a big part of our Freedom as Americans & is for everyones protection, against far more things, than just hunting & self defense issues... if you haven't read it, maybe it's time to actually read the document/amendment & subsequent changes that have been made over the many years... "If guns were outlawed, then only outlaws would have the guns", Personally "I'm not willing to let that happen"... Also the NRA does allot more than just protect gun owners rights, it's far more complicated/diverse than that... I'm not really a religious person, but May all the victims of this cowardly vial Hannis despicable senseless act of violence, all rest in peace & may the piece of **** cowardly despicable shooter "rot & burn in hell"... that's my $0.02 cents

We want to know why this happen....Yet will ever know the true story....Remembering the names of the victims, & forgetting you ever read this man’s name......

My sympathy and prayers go out to the people affected by this horrible tragedy. Sad, sad day.

I really hate to say this but it needs to be said, and please do not flame my post if you are one of the people or relatives of the referenced. People with kids or relatives that are know to be mentally unstable or my have a form of mental disability need to stop thinking they can handle it on their own and at their own home. they need to get professional help, state help or whatever program is available for the situation. Keeping your mentally ill person with you thinking your ok and "it's not so bad" is what is killing our innocent children and adults. Please note: all of the last school and adult killings have been done by whacked out mentally unstable individuals whop have lived at home and have given signs of their instability but were ignored by their family and friends. I also hate to say this but if those people can't not find it in their hearts to seek help the states and law enforcement need to do it for them. How many more innocents need to die before doing what is right for the many instead of being selfish for the one?

Right. The media is a BIG help in sensationalizing the evil. These idiots end up like rock stars. If they don't end up dead, they'll be in jail the rest of their lives on our tax dollars and probably have a book out. Look at Charles Manson.
They won't show a nut running out on a MLB baseball field during a game on TV... yet, they'll fall all over themselves to sensationalize and make these cold-blooded MURDERERS famous.

I feel so sad for the parents as well as everone else. Another bad day for this great country.
My daughter knew the Columbine killers and would have been there that day if we have not decided to move to GJ a few years earlier. She went to Middle-school with them. Not really friends but one of them was jumping on my tramp after school one day with my daughter. Course I never knew this til after the shootings.
I, to this day, still refuse to give them the glory of remembering their names. They will always be "the 2 ******** that shot up Columbine" and nothing more.

I agree with you 100 percent. That is one of the reasons for the Second Amendment, self defense and an out of control government. Look back in history of all the countries that guns were banned by their leaders, look what happened, look it up. Stalin in Russia, 20 million killed, Hitler in Germany, 6 Million Jews killed...the list goes on. As Patrick Henry believed a citizenry trained in arms was the only sure gaurantor of liberty. I sure want to keep my liberty and freedoms as stated in our Constitution. The Second Amendment protects those rights given to us by our founding fathers. The Second Amendment is still relative today as is was when added in 1789. There are others out there that hate us and our country and love to see this country fall. My dad fought for that document in WWII so his children and grandchildren could enjoy our freedoms. Don't let the the media and "libtards" try to brainwash us into thinking otherwise.

Agreed. There are previous posts that suggest the Second Ammendment is outdated. It is not. Another post says we hide behind it. I stand in front, no hiding.
