The 66 charger is just about ready to come back to life for the 1st time in about 10 years. this is the car i was gonna trade my 1800 VTX to my buddy for , but he didnt go for that deal.

he bought this car ( absolutely NO rust) 10 years ago and had a 70 - 383 built to stock specs. the engine was built 7 years ago but has never been fired up. the tranny also was rebuilt at the same time . we finally got all the wiring nightmare sorted out. just about every wire coming out of the bulkhead connector had been cut and i have been tracing down wires for the past 3 weeks and rewiring the entire engine compartment. yesterday was the final day of wire tracing and i have just a few more wires to find their home and turn the key !

but before we fire this thing up , and since it has been sitting for 7 years after the re-build, something is telling me to pull the oil pump and shove some Vaseline in the gears for priming .

as far as the tranny...i know very little about these things. the converter was filled at installation (7 yrs ago)....and thats it....he let the damn thing sit for that long. the whole car with the engine and tranny has been sitting in a heated garage this whole time. i should be concerned about the cylinder walls, but he isnt as worried as i am and he wants to fire it up. we turned the engine manually a few times clocking in the dizzy and i didnt hear anything i shouldnt have heard....like scraping or a rough sound.

the car never had a drive shaft on it but it came with the car when he bought it. its the kind with the "donut weight" on it. i just have a few Q's...before i fire this thing up:

1. it now has an electronic ignition on it. im not sure how to wire it up so if anyone has a diagram on how to do this. id love ya for it .

2.it also has the newer style charging system with a blue volt reg and alternator with a thick wire on it, and one field wire. if ya have a diagram on this also....me love you long time Joe .

3. the donut weight on the drive shaft goes on HOW ?...donut to the rear end?...or donut to the tranny ???? i never seen this before ....all my cars have no weights on the drive shafts.

thanx a million in advance!:headbang:

The damper (weight) on the drive shaft goes next to the transmission. Isn't the slip yoke on the drive shaft?
Also, you can get a prime shaft and spin the oil pump before you start so you don't need to pack the oil pump. I would pre-spin the oil pump.
Regards,

thanx for the reply. i neglected to mention the U- joints are not on the driveshaft yet.

X2 on both these answers.

During the priming process, rotate the engine by hand while spinning the oil pump to ensure complete lubrication on all surfaces.
