This has probably been asked many times , but I
could not find an answer in the archives.

what is the difference between the Blair 11090 and the 11090N? I can't seem to find a difference , except price. Which one is better for spot drilling.

You might want to consider Harbor Freight tools. There was a thread on another forum, and a lot of the guys said that the harbor freight bits lasted a hell of a lot longer than the Blair, and were much cheaper to buy.

I have the Northern Tools Cobalt and the Harbor Freight. Both are ROBUST and holding up well.
Yup, I know, everyone will be on me because Harbor Freight IS made in China.
But hey...I dont have "Dickie C's" money!

Can your China ones drill over 2000 welds without breaking?
These are the only ones that I'll use.

Used properly the Blair will outwork the HF crap in my experience but more power to you if you can make the imported junk work...
 
with any of my drilling or cutting I always use a good cutting oil and tap and die oil, buy the best and they will last, junk ones are throw aways ..
 
Still waiting for my complete Blair kit from Eastwood to arrive. Currently using HF and already went through 1 whole bit both sides only removing top cover of the cowl on my roadrunner and almost completely around the roof skin. Front, both sides including where the rear quarters meet and up to the left top corner of the back glass area. I still have another one from HF and going to use it to finish removing my rusted out panels and hopefully my Blair kit arrives soon.
 
I'm right on with Matt and Moparmarks on this one. Ever since Matt turned me on to blair a few years back, i've never looked back. Before that tried the HF ones, which ended up in the field behind my house after a few bloody knuckles. Settled for the eastwood drill bit type. Worked, but didn't hold a wick to the blairs. Like mentioned, machine oil or the lubricant Blair sells makes life much easier and extends their life.

Here's the ones I buy:

As I politely stated, it's about the $$ for me right now.
 
It is about the money with me. I drill over 20000 welds a year, every year. The Rotabroach cost 3 times as much as the hole saw style but they last 10 times longer. I used the hole saw type for a couples years because they cost less. I finally tried the Rotabroach and my frist thought was " what took me so long?" They cut faster, easier and last sooo much longer.
I actually drilled out 1 and a half cars with one bit. About 7500 welds.

Also check your local auto body supply. One here sells them at the same price as on-line.
 
I used a Blair weld cutter bit for awhile on my last project. Worked well, but for some reason wore out pretty quickly.

Then I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of DeWalt pilot bits for about 6.00 each. Worked great and lasted as long as the Blair. Kept it well lubricated and went slow though. It's a cheap alternative.
 
Anytime you buy harbor freight stuff it's like flushing your money down the drain. Just another job moves off shore. The Blair Spot weld Cutter is good as long as you use a little cutting oil to keep em cool. I do agree the Blair bits are expensive.
 
The only time I use oil is on the rusty welds. I do drill really slow. Under 300 rpm.
Like anything you just have to find what works for you. I found mine.
 
As a machinist, I know the value of good tools. They will always last longer than cheap ones and will pay for themselves. As for lube, going slow will usually work when not using lube but time usually is money so using lube and going faster pays off but using lube will help the chips move out of the way of the cutting teeth. In most cases, it's the chips that help damage the cutter....
 
Believe me, I've tried about everything to make this job faster and easier. Oil didn't make much difference for me. Oil and faster RPM still dulled the bits faster unless you keep a ton of oil on it. As you know oil is to cool the bit and drilling surface. I don't really get the bit very hot and actually oil made the shaving get stuck inside the bit. If I used oil on all the drills would my bits last longer? Yes but the mess and time oiling the welds is more of a bother to me.
They also make a hardend drill bit stlye weld cutter. I've tried them as well as regular high speed bits.
I too will spend the extra cake on higher quality USA made tools. I have tools that are almost as old as I am. That drill in my pic, I bought it in the early 80's. Have used the crap out of it.
 
I use the Rotabroach Cutters and don't have an issue with busting teeth. Only thing I have to do is hit the pilot bit on the bench grinder because the tip flattens out after awhile.

I use the Blair lube, works well..Seems to speed up the drilling and keep the bits alive a lot longer.
