Either i'm getting old or this pinion nut is on pretty darn good.
Anyone want to give me a trick to getting it off. I really dont want to use heat unless its my last option.
Going to try breaker bar with longpipe tomorrow but a standard breaker bar with 1-5/16 pinion nut socket isnt budging. I got wheels chocked in both directions. All i can say is holy **** its stuck pretty good.

to crush the sleeve it was 150 to 200 ft lb's and a lot of people add loctite

so longer bar or heat or both

Grab the yolk with a big wrench, I used a 3' pipe wrench, and block it so it won't rotate when you turn your breaker bar with pipe handle.

1/2 impact gun for the win to take it off. I had to go and buy a socket for mine when I took mine off

I have an Ingersoll Rand 3/4" drive super duty snub nosed impact just for pinion nuts. So far, it's never failed. Somethin about 1250 foot pounds can be really persuasive.

Wish I had a picture of my fingernail, been wondering since Dec. 30th if it was going to fall off. Torque slips off of Pittman arm. BIG TORQUE SPECS.

I bent my 3/4" drive ratchet with a 6 foot pipe over it loosening the nut on my Dana 80 in my Dually. The impact didn't even phase it. I agree a little heat(propane torch) will help if it has been locktited.

I looked up my snap on one and it says 1190 foot pounds. Never had trouble breaking anything loose with that. IR great stuff there.

I have a "tool" I made just for that reason, it is piece of 1/4" thick aluminum bar stock that I drilled to mach the pinion yoke/U-Joint retaining holes and then bore a hole in the center to access the nut. when applied it forces the weight of the car to hold the yoke still, by wedging it on the ground. has never failed.

3/4 impact or a real stout 1/2 impact makes easy work of it. The trick is to keep the yoke locked down.

I think you'll find that spec is at 90 PSI. What shop is THAT lame? lol

I TRIED A 1/2" milwaukee impact gun and good luck on that one. didnt budge.
car is on the lift.going to heat up the nut and maybe the red loctite will loosen up but i think its more than that. going with a long piece of round tube steel over my breaker bar tonight. going to mark the nut and spline to make sure everything goes back the correct way.

True have to relook at the psi. All I know when you hit hold on tight lol course long ago when I worked for americas tires they had a 1" gun man was that sick used to break the lugs loosd on motor homes.

We have a big daddy 3/4" impact with a 1" hose line. I remove them all day long when at shop.

Got a very large pipe wrench put it on the u joint spot on the pinion yoke, handle up against the floor pan, then i took my long floor jack handle put it over my 3/4' drive ratchet and pulled like hell/ Finally broke free.
I tried it without the pipe wrench and i spun the tires turning the nut counterclock wise.
New MW pinion yoke is on and new driveshaft sensor collar all mounted and one more drilled hole in the bracket and its finished. Came out quite nice. Also installed a new spicer 1350 U joint today.

Some Danas used crush collars on and off, and its 250 to 400 ft lbs to crush a crush collar, and D-60-s pin nuts are tq'ed to 250 to 300 ft lbs

I have jacked the car up by the differential pretty high. High enough to get under the car to put the socket on the nut. Position the breaker bar and/or pipe extension end against the ground. Let the car down slowly and the weight of the car loosens the nut. Never failed me. I don't even try it by hand first anymore.
