11 second 1969 Dodge Coronet 440/auto. I plan on installing 3" exhaust from the headers to the X pipe to the ________ muffler.

I am looking at Race bullet mufflers,a few guys in town have them. Sound nice and perform well.

Whats your opinion?

For racing purposes, going with the loudest muffler usually results in the least back pressure and most power. I like the Flow Tech Terminators, but everytime I've recommended them, I am either ignored or shot down. I think they sound badass.

I will look into those. I am looking into Cherry Bomb Extreme mufflers right now.

Yeah. Those are LOUD. The Terminators are like a LITTLE quieter, but not by much.

Do the Cherry Bomb Extremes sound good? Not a fan of Flow masters, hoping to avoid the sound. I think these might give off the terror of power that a 440 produces.

I have the dynomax race.bullets on my car and I must say they do a good job. Awsome sound and great performance

You could also go with the ultra flo round or oval they will give you a deeper tone compared to the bullets.

NOTHING like the sound of a worked 440 breathing through some race bullets. Too loud for me for my driver, but I guess i could enjoy it 11 seconds at a time.

For me, my flowmaster 40's just drone too damn much. At cruise rpm its all ear splitting drone, it feels like at some point i dont even hear the motor anymore. Besides, every test i ever saw showed flowmaster 40's dont even flow as well as most superturbos let alone bullets.

I decided to go with summit welded aluminized super turbos. Like $30 each and flow better than my flowmasters. Havent installed em yet so i cant say how they sound.

The cherry bomb extremes are exactly the same muffler as the one chamber flowmaster. Same flowmaster sound, but LOUD.

I use a TTI 3" system with the X-pipe and tail pipes out to the rear of the car. I use the Dyno-Max Ultra-Flow mufflers. I like them as they seem to work good. I have never uncapped my 63 as I did not even install cutouts because I figure this system flows good enough it may not be to much faster uncapped. And I am getting old and dont like crawling under the car at the track. Its run 10.70's so far with this setup. Ron

I run 3 in TTI, Dyno-Max mufflers, with electric cut outs after the collectors, same set up as 383man, but wit the electrics, to me best of both worlds.

maremont flowmaster turbo flow anecdote. I put a set on my RR back in 82, behind headers and a warmed up 413, bottom of one blew out at about 3 months, replaced free (by my labor mind you) by maremont, bottom of the other blew out about a month later, got money back for both and replaced with glass packs. Still on the car but not doing much in the way of muffling after about a month or so. But they sound good when first put on and they didn't come apart!

383man.......I have the same 3" TTI system and mufflers on my 505 Polara....I made the H pipe section removeable with some additional flanges and have run both open and closed....There is NO difference other than the car sounds way cooler at the strip[ opened up....performance wise????? NO difference...

Thanks for the info. Thats why I did not worry about cutouts as I really felt if I uncapped it right at the collectors that it would not be much if any faster. And I like racing it just the way I drive it. I love the sound of this system as its just right for this old man when cruisin and sounds much louder when the pedal is to the metal ! Ron

real race mufflers

I've used Delta Flow Flowmaster on a bunch of cars went mid 8's @ near 160mph with a 3500lb RR with N20 using them, only picked up les than a couple of tenth's with out them, that was mainly because of the 100+lbs weight of the full exhaust, all the way out the back mostly... I used the Flowmaster from the beginning when the owner was a regular guy, supported the racing {from Santa Rosa Ca.} at the tracks at Sacramento & Sears Point mostly back in the 70's, when they were basically the only TRUE & REAL Racing chambered mufflers out on the market, that would stand up to big horse power & N20, without killing a ton of HP/TQ, like all the rest would... But if I was to do it again I would go with either the same 50 Series Delta Flow Flowmaster Racing Mufflers & 4-2-1 Scavenger race collectors {they are big/heavy}, but they actually create a vacuum, to help draw exhaust out the system on a flow bench at my old buddy Mark Lowe's shop, my old great cylinder head porter, may he rest in peace... {if they still even make them even, I have at least a 18+ year old ones on my 68 RR now, with new 3" mandrel bent Flowmaster tubes all the way out the back} or I would probably use the Dyna-Max straight thru type race mufflers, like suggested by Jim LaRoy/IQ52 or resident professional cylinder-head expert... see photos below
