Does anyone know the best way to remove the ac condensor drain tube collars ? I bought the restoration kit from DMT and wanted to do as much of it myself as possible. If you guys think it requires special tools or something I guess I could send just the box half with the condensor still in it to someone.Looking forward to any suggestions you guys might have from prior experience, thanks.

Sorry for any screwups on here posting guys but I know my way around a computer just enough to be dangerous. Here is a pic and the tubes in question are faceing down into the bench. There are old foam gaskets pushed onto them right where the collar connects to the copper tube.
I have an engine building business so the dismantling and cleaning and such of some of these parts is'nt hard to do with the equipment I have.An item such as this seems easy enough to restore and test, untill you run into 1 little item that requires special tools. There is a good pic of them in my 70 charger, coronet factory service manual in the ac section but no dissassemble instructions!

100_7229 (Large).jpgI heated the drain tube collar things up and lightly tapped on them. You may have to soak them and also note that there are tabs on the inside the needs to be bent in so they can come off. If you end up needing any small parts PM me. I had someone give me an entire 1970 b-body A/C heater box and most of the vents, etc. Here is a pic of the box for our '66 Coronet 500.

Hey thanks Jeremiah, I'll try that out and see what happens. The one tube is crushed on the end so I will probable end up cutting the bad end off.I would think the copper tube could be replaced from a spot hidden in the box.I sent my heater control valve to Classic Air in Florida to be reworked, they did great job on it. If the diaphrams need work I'll see if they can work on them also, unless you recomend someone else.

DLevel: Sometimes you have to soak them in PB blaster for a while.

Bend the tabs out a bit, take a 1/2 inch open end wrench and slide it over the drain tray tube, smack the wrench a couple times with a hammer, and that should do it. - Though I have never had to use a torch, heat could help, but be careful that you don't use to much as you could potentially cause de-soldering problems in other critical areas.

I see you said that one of the ends is bent. Try to round it out as best as possible first (but don't flare it). If you need to cut off a 1/2 inch or so do so, as once the rubber drain tube is in place, you will never see/notice the slight shortness.

Though I have never NOT been able to get them off (and I deal with lots of them), cutting the drain pan tube off would be easy to repair once everything is apart by brazing/soldering on a replacement, if you find that the only solution.

Lastly, and not to be a terminology Nazi here, but you are dealing with the "evaporator", not the condenser (which is in front of the radiator). I point this out so that if you do decide to send out your unit, you don't create confusion when explaining your problem.

Thanks for the info Q-ship.It will be a little bit before I can get back to it with racing a week away here at my business. In the meantime I will be sure to keep spraying some penetrant on the tubes. When I started this car I had no Idea of the time involved to totally tear down and rebuild one of these cars !
