Interior done with POR-15. Seats stripped to springs and sent for media blasting and powder coating. New seat foam and new Legendary vinyl installed. Windshield removed. Dash out to paint. I am guessing dash was originally flat black around the bottom and top and gloss black in the middle above the lower chrome trim and below the dash pad to match the glove box door. Am I correct on this? Striped lawn chair next to the dash has been my driver's seat for moving in and out of the garage while seats were gone. Leaves a lot to be desired. I never would have thought about doing a complete wiring harness, but the prospect does not seem all that complex compared to when I began and began unwiring everything. I will try to replace just the slightly melted bulkhead connector first. Car still runs and drives. Just need to wear safety glasses due to lack of windshield and grab that dangling ignition switch carefully and insert and turn key. LOL

Looking good...seat foam from legendary too?

Looking good...seat foam from legendary too?

I bought the bucket seat foams from Legendary. The upholsterer did the burlap and additional stuffing as needed and made the rear foams. I told him I wanted the seats pretty firm. He did a lot of work on the driver seat springs that were pretty saggy. I sure am going to miss that lawn chair!

Nice work.............More Pictures Please...

I will do updates as I go. I have plenty of new parts to go on, but got my game plan a little out of sequence. I am about out of money to do what needs done next, but already bought parts for stuff that needs to be done after that. One day am gonna have stripped and painted before I reinstall the whole interior, and the next day I am going to just leave the paint driver quality and drive it for a while first. One day I am going to sent the factory air to Mr. Heaterbox to have the original under dash unit and controls restored, and then the next day I think I am going to chuck the entire factory ac and go with a Classic Air unit instead. I am confused, so I guess it is good this is going slow. It allows time for more money to show up before I have to make any firm decisions. Paint quotes are blowing my mind and when I ask for references and look at their work, I am not impressed.

How far are you willing to travel for paint? We have a great place in Macon, Georgia. Troopers Collision Center. They mostly deal with insurance collision, but Trooper himself is a car fanatic. He's owned so many high end rustangs and Shelbys, I cannot count. He's even had a Boss 429 car in the past. He's done resto work from all over the country, but he does it on a limited basis. Like one at a time.

The seats look really nice, btw.

Very Nice, Take your time & do it right the first time & you`ll only do it once. Again, Very Nice

Thanks for the lead. I will check out their website. I am not sure what to expect to pay to strip two repaints plus factory paint plus any body work. I think the car has some minor filler over the rear wheel wells, as well as minor dent filler on the passenger quarter, passenger door and right front fender. Probably need the small patch panels for both rear wheel wells. None of which is real noticeable except when you catch it in exactly the right light. I am thinking 6K plus the cost of any body work for a real decent, but not show car quality with me removing all chrome, bumpers etc., windshield and rear glass out and side glass still in place. I looked at a 67 Camaro paint job last week where the guy paid $4,500 for what he thought was a super paint job and I thought it looked like crap. Bodywork was all done. Minor prep sanding on a rolling shell, outside and door jams only, all glass, chrome, bumbers and interior removed by owner. The front stripe edges and where they came around the fenders (stripe around the nose only) were really bad. Lots of nooks and crannies looked like they had inadequate coverage. I had another car restoration guy quote me 12-14K for what he said was "to do it right" and said he would need the car for eight months. Eight months to paint a car?

I agree. It will be cheaper in the long run also. Great job so far.

Ha! That's too funny! That's about the same way I operate. I don't mean to, it just happens.

Oh, and the seats look great, btw!

That price sounds about right, but 8 months is a long time. If you could find a body shop that would work just on your car, from start to finish, I could see 2 months but unfortunately, shops that operate like that are few & far between.

Buying a correctly restored car that's all done sounds cheap now, doesn't it?

Yes it does. I keep thinking I could have bougt a new SRT-8 Challenger 392 for what I am going to have in this car and just kept it nice instead of trying to put one back to nice after others have committed a multitude of sins on it.
