Restoring Chrome on my Magnum GTdash

Part 3 of 3 - Step by Step ReChroming Magnum XE/GT and/or Cordoba air vents.
Three posts of 25 pics/steps

OK, now we need to put it all together. For best results put the parts together out side of the vent.

Use one of the other vents to make sure you put it together correctly! And it should look like this.

Carefully drop the guts back into the back of the vent. Snap in the sides.

Re install the frame piece and its ready to be put back in the vent holder. Push it in through the back side while making sure you don't scratch the work you've done!

Re install and your DONE! They look NOS new with out the big price tag!

That was a great lesson MAGNUM. I've got a couple newer cars that will need this, and i'm sure going to use what you showed us today.

I have a mold for making Magnum emblems and had a few made laying around so figured I would chrome them too! :) Anyone needing "MAGNUM"(fenders & trunk lid) or the "DODGE"(headlight cover) emblems? I can make them just about any color! (Red, White, Black, Pink, Purple or Blue all with Chrome)

WOW!!! Great write up. It was nice how you took the time and show us the step by steps. You do very nice work. Looks like I’m taking my dash apart again on the 72 charger lol.

This should get a sticky.

I can't wait till my order gets here. They were out of stock for awhile. Thanks Magnum for this info. Does this trim up nice and clean with a blade?

okay I got my stuff. my computers down so I'm doing is over my phone. this stuff is pretty easy to work with. it seems like there's a grain in the material itself that shows up. I just a little sample piece. when you peel the foil away from a paper I think portable creases in the foil and that's what showing up I may have to figure out a better way to remove the foil from the paper. The cool thing about this is you can polish it. Testors also makes or chrome foil. Next time I'm going to try it using a wallpaper roller to smooth it out. I'll post some pics when I can figure out how to do it over my phone.

Just got my foil today. I'm starting with the drivers side a/c vent first before I tackle the ralley dash. I'll be posting my before and after pictures of how it comes out soon. Thanks to Magnum for the great how to on this thread....

wish me luck

Looks great. That foil is not easy stuff to work with, I use it on model cars sometimes, there is usually a lot of swearing involved ha ha

Ok.... Just finished the dash plaque that has the road runner script and little bird. Mine was missing the damned little bird since I got the car.... Actually got this complete one for $60 bucks still attached to the trim plate a while back but it looked terrible. Seems the previous owner cleaned it to death.

So I refurbished the bird and cleaned up the script. But what really made it pop was applying some "Bare Metal" foil I heard about on this thread. As promised.... Here are my first attempts and results.

Here's the first part I did and shows the foil in process.

And here's the finished product with the foil in the background together with my trusty x-acto and a small hobby brush to get the little filings!

Only took a couple of hours and once installed, it took a polish with just a dry cotton cloth and looks like the original chrome. Fantastic stuff!!!
