I have a 77 Cordoba that I'm building a 451 stroker for. It will be iron headed for now, hoping for 400 horsepower. The plan later is to put alum heads on it and push the power up to 500 horse. It has the 8 1/4 open rear in it now. Should I get a 9 1/4 (easer to find/cheaper) or put in a 8 3/4 (harder to find/ more $$$). The car is going to be a cruser with a few trip to the track to see what it will do. Only plan to put 3:20 something to 3:55 grears in the rear. Thanks

9-1/4 is the way to go for the later b bodies. Much easier swap.

I used a 8 3/4 from a 71 RR,installed in a 75 Charger. It was a bolt in.We used the 8 3/4 lower shock mounts/spring plates and the shocks for the 71.That was some time ago and finding a 71 to early 73 B 8 3/4 may be harder now.I was wondering about a C body rear and if it sizes up.I have heard that the C rears work in E body cars but don't have any first hand knowledge.

Too bad we wasn't closer, I have an 91/4 out of my 73 roadrunner that I have bolted in my 78 dodge monoco wagon that I am going to be pulling out to replace with an 8 3/4 rear,,,the 9 1/4 rear has 355 gears in it just needs to have the bearings replaced. I would seel cheap, because I don't know what I would do with it after taking it out of the car.

I found an 8 3/4 that was in a Cordoba. I think it was for an older B body. Nothing was modified to put it in. I used the original 9 1/4 mounts and brakes on mine with 3.91 sure grip. I've been drivin it for 3 years and made 2 trips to the Nats with no problems.
