So my new (to me) '69 RR has a set of Super Stock springs out back, but the height is way too jacked and the ride feels like I'm driving an empty box truck :icon_redface:

Picked up a set of stock replacement leafs to bring it back down to Earth.

Thing is, I had read that the SS springs need some kinda special bracket in order for them to fit right, so I checked mine and I'm not sure if they're stock or SS specific

Here are a couple of pix

Will these work or will I need to drill some holes?

Those are not factory spring hangers, aftermarket something or another. Your rear tires look very tall as well. Guessing if you changed your tire height, springs and front spring hangers, you would see/feel a world of difference with the ride/height. Don't know the size of your front tires (obviously a lot shorter than the rear), but it looks like your torsion bars are cranked all pretty high as well. That would help to make your bird ride like an "empty box truck" as well. Guessing someone cranked them up to level off the rake. Maybe look at toning those down a bit to balance out changes you may make to the back suspension.

Good luck.

How about putting them in that top hole, that would lower it. won't help the ride though. In that one picture it really looks to have quite an arch to them.

What kind of angle is on those rear shackles ? from the pic. it looks like they're pulled all the way toward the front.

Thanks for the info on the front mounts.

Here are some pix from earlier today (just wanted to get a feel for the size, so I slapped one of the 14" front wheels out back)

I'd drill my current mounts if I had the right measurements, but looking at the mounts listed on EBay, it seems the difference in hole position look very close between body styles, so I'll just pickup a set.

Your RR looks just like my old Bird!!!!! Boy I miss that car!!!!! I'll be waiting to hear how the tires fit into the wheel wells once you get it lowered down..... Keep your ears peeled for scrubbing sounds!!

What measurements do you need? The stock holes are 2" further forward than your existing holes. What I would do would be drill two sets of holes on each side. One high and one low. That way you can sorta taylor the height a little bit. Just like the holes that are there now but 2" forward.

New goodies installed

Still needs a factory pinion snubber (the adjustable one is too high, even on the lowest setting)

I'm a little late to the party but damn does that look way better. Glad you got it figured out! the "highwater" look is never a good thing lol

That does look good! I went back and counted the leaves in that one shot and I count nine leaves. There may be one more that's hidden by the tire. I cannot imagine what the hell kinda springs those are. I don't know of any S/S spring that has nine or more leaves. That's crazy.

That looks good now ! I was going to say that in the first pics it looks like you had the front jacked way up also. Looks real good now. Ron

sweet looking ride!ride hight is way better now, nice work.like rusty said,i dont think those old ones are ss springs.either totally custom or ss's with leafs added.

What springs do you use? I am looking for a similar ride height for my 70 RR
