Hi guys,

I`m looking for a nice set of raised white letter tires.
Unfortunately my favourite tires aren`t available any longer (Firehawk Indy 500, Goodyears Eagle #1 Nascar).

All I can find at the moment:

- Mickey Thompson
- BF Goodrich Radial T/A
- Cooper Cobra (no option at all)
- Mastercraft

Do you have any other ideas or sources?

Thanks

Dan

I need street tires ;o)

Cant use race tires over here in Germany.
We do not have speed limits on the highway but other stoopid laws you know.

Does Coker Tire have any options for you?

The polyglas tires?

They should look like BF Goodrich, Daytona SR, or Mickey Thompson.

Would like to try something new :thinker:

BF Goodrich/Michelin doesn't make the Radial TA themselves anymore, they sold the molds to Coker Tire a couple of years ago. I was never impressed with them, even when BF Goodrich made them. I think they were a good tire 30 years ago, but technology has long since caught up with them. They have also gotten expensive and according to guys on other forums some sizes are hard to get.

Cooper Tire makes Mastercraft and also the Hercules H/P 4000. They probably make other brands as well. I guess you don't like them, but I've had good luck with Cooper made tires in the past. My next set of tires (sometime this summer) will be Cooper Cobra.

I don't know anybody personally who has Mickey Thompson, but guys on other forums seem to like them pretty well. Especially their 4x4 truck tires.

Cooper Cobra is a very bad tire on wet surfaces, did you read any test results before?
I would not recommend them at all, a friend of my just crashed his Cougar with Cooper Cobra installed.

So most of the raised white letter tires just look good, but the quality is bad....that is was I was trying to say.

Have you ever tried the BF Goodrich Radial TA? They are far worse in my opinion on wet roads. In fact, I think they are downright dangerous when they are on pickups. That is what I'm getting at with the technology issue. None of the raised white letter tires still made are going to be great on wet roads. Unfortunately there is no demand for RWL with the general public, so they are considered specialty tires now and nobody designs them for traction.

Funny thing is that if you want a tire that will be better on wet roads, the cheaper brands are probably the way to go. They use a softer rubber that won't last as long, but they grip better and usually have a more open tread design.

Now if you go with black wall tires, it's a whole different ball game out there and I wouldn't even be talking about any of these brands.

Sam's club has Dunllop GT Qualifiers which are cool looking http://www.samsclub.com/sams/dunlop-g-t-qualifier-p275-60r15-107t/158365.ip

Mickey T's and BFGs also look great IMHO

Yes, I had the BF Goodrich on my last car, they are fine on dry roads but as you said really dangerous when it rains.

@tallhair: the Dunlop really look nice, thanks! Will check if they are available in the size I need.

I ran Dunlop's on my 93 dakota and they were fine.

Last "name brand" RWL tires I was able to find easily were Uniroyal Tiger Paw.

Nothing wrong with those, either.

You should probably educate yourself about the ratings- at least treadwear and traction, then factor those against price to get a combo that works for you.

It's all to easy to get a high traction tire that costs big bucks and wears out in 20K miles, and also the other end of 100K miles but no grip.

I'm not a fan of eagle gt's either- it seems like the rubber just flakes off when they get hot.
