The car originally came out with a am radio I was wondering if a later model fm radio would fit without dash mods.

I thought about the hidden radio it may be the way I go, ill check into converting it, or maybe just rock out to the best am radio stations I get.

Instrument clusters that have already been cut for radios are MUCH cheaper than unmolested ones.
I've seen some in really nice shape, other than the cut.

If it were me, I'd consider buying one that someone else has already cut, and saving your original.

I haven't bought an aftermarket stereo in years so I have no idea what they go for anymore. If you're interested in getting your original converted I had mine done for 400.00 - coolest thing about it is that you can plug your I-Pod into it and listen to your own music. 2-cents

GOOD HD/Aux in/USB/Bluetooth/preamp out/bandpass/30-50 watt per channel stereos are now in the $90-$150 range at wal-mart and best buy. Brands like Sony, Alpine, Pioneer, Clarion etc.

If you got 4 bills you can get satellite/nav/touchscreen/DVD, etc and a 7 inch full color screen.

Honestly, I'd be happy with one that had a good menu for the USB input, and a matching level control for the aux/usb.

I am going to hide a four channel amp in the trunk and run an RCA to 3.5mm cable to the front for my phone. Two 6x9's in the package tray and two 3.5's in the dash should fit the bill. I usually shop at www.onlinecarstereo.com because they have good deals and free shipping. It is best to call them and make sure everything is in stock prior to ordering. In out convertible I am using the same dual 3.5" bracket in the dash and 5.25" Infinity Kappa speakers in the rear door panels. These will be hooked to a 5-channel Infinity amp in the trunk. I'll run all of the Ipod/phone connectors to the console and include a volume control that will be in between the amp and the ipod/phone/mp4 player. I bought a five channel because I am pretty sure she will make me install a sub so E-40 sounds right.
