Hi there
Was pulled over by the heat last friday. Took my RR GTX for a spin and ended up at the local police station. My car was too loud. With their equipement they mesured 107dB. Have a 72 GTX with the 440 a bit tuned up. It has a full exhaust 3" wide with 40 series Flowmasters. Have to get it to a resonable 95dB. Wich mufflers should I get. The penalty is over $200, for that money I should be able to buy me a new set. My exhaust is Only a few months old, so changing it should be easy.
Any comment would be appriciated.
Kind regards from Holland
Marc

Resignator's? (SP?)

Those 40 Flowmasters are known sound monsters. I myself would look at a set of Dyno Max.

Simple. Leave the mufflers there and just install a pair of small glass packs in the tail pipes.

Wow that sucks. I drive around with my cut outs open all the time. Haven't put them on since last spring. My car has a 440 with pretty serious sounding cam. If I do a drive up I have to shut the car off. Lol

Rusty's correct. cut a section of tail pipe out and replace the section with a glass pacl. Should fit with no issues, cheap.

Thanks guys for all your response. Am not sure if the glasspacks will kill 12dB. But indeed the cheapest solution. It is really loud now, and the law up here demands a max dB output of 95 decibels. They are very strickt on this.
If I mount a set glasspacks and it isn't quiet enough, I will have to pay the penalty again when they catch me. I live near the dragstrip and every event the cops are cruisin' around to pick out the louder cars. You'll have to drive to the nearest police station to get your dB's checked.
So want to be sure what to invest in mij GTX.
Regards
Marc

i would switch to a 3 chamber muffler and dump those two chamber monsters.if that dont do it,then try the glass pac bump.

I don't know what tailpipe tips you have, but if you're looking for cheap options to avoid the noise ticket - you could put on some turn down tips. Its not going to quiet your exhaust, but It does help the noise from being projected straight back and getting the authorities' attention when you're hard on it.

Years ago. had a 67 442 with straight pipes-no muffs at all, to the rear bumper. Got a nuisance ticket and had to find a cheap solution. I stuffed a bunch of steel wool into the pipes, and drove slowly to have it inspected. Worked like a charm! However, driving home (dark out) on the freeway flaming comets started launching out the back of the car, totally freaking out the people following. Really cool, but obviously a very temporary fix.

How about once you get other mufflers or your exhaust fixed, can you call the HEAT and have them come over to do a sound check before you get back on the street?

lmao!~

Cost not withstanding, my 440 has TTI's, followed by QTP electric cut outs followed by DynoMax Super Turbos. Best of both worlds and stay off of Law Enforcement radar.

Back in the high school days (45 plus years ago) I used to get the noise tickets all the time. I drilled 4 small holes (top, bottom and both sides)on each tail pipes push some course steel wool up the tail pipes and put a piece of coat hanger/filler rod through the holes to make a cross. Put a small kink in the ends of the rod. It only cost a few dollars and does work after your test blow it out and your done til next time. It has to be course as the fine steel wool will pack into a plug.
Good luck

I like that electric cut out idea. E en if you have run a muffler at the track. A cut out at the header or behind the muffler is a cheap and effective solution to he problem.
How you design it is up to you.
