What do you call your clone?

pic was 1968 Roadrunner 100 mph into a bridge in Nanuet NY in 1968...not someone i knew, but a terrible waste nonetheless..

I just realized that's a vintage photo. Thought it was a recent one at first just done in b/w. Looks like the grill (which is actually there) is perfectly compacted into the space where the heater core should be. The engine and trans would have been sitting in the space between the rear package shelf and the dash.

My dad totaled a 69 RR 4 months after he bought it and thankfully walked away, well after they got him back around from being knocked out. He was driving to work, hit a dry spot on an icy road, then sideways into an embankment of some kind, which shot him out the passenger window and out into a field.

Oh, he immediately went out and bought another 69 RR, which were apparently hard to find as he had to go to several dealerships to find another 4 speed.

you have just received the biggest bullshit post of the year on FBBO award, congradulations !!
you cant be serious with that load of ****. are you the dude that goes from car to car checking VIN tags ? the clone police LMFAO !!every car show should have one and kick all the non original cars out, because they aren't worthy and are made from different metal . its people like you that ruin the hobby. at least the "cloners" are saving the parts. if it wasn't for cloners demanding parts, there wouldn't be a reproduction parts market, I guess you could blame the cloners for that. I bet your cars are full of re-popped parts. you better stock up , because all the good parts are almost gone

mother mopar built them as whole

AHHH NO, not serious, maybe try reading the rest of the thread and my earlier posts...the cars in pics will never be rebuilt. My car is a clone, and it makes absolutely no difference to me, couldn't care less...For the money it is way more solid than any "real" GTX I could afford. In fact, I feel the same way you do, and the post was suppose to illustrate the utter absurdity of it all.
I have caught some negative comments at shows by the tongue clucking self appointed fender tag police. I was told the GTX badgeing didn't belong on my fender, I am a fraud, that my 67 gtx clone took away from the value of the "real" ones like his.I always saw the difference between a GTX and a satellite or belvedere as a difference in options and accessories, all of which I have replicated. So when people ask what i have the short answer is a 67 "GTX" to denote the upgrades/capabilities/build.If they show more then passing interest, I usually show them the before and after pics of the cloning and the whole rotisserie restoration/build because I am proud of the work I have done. When I drive down the road it feels like a GTX. In fact about the only difference are some numbers stamped in the metal ,I don't regret for one moment "hacking up automotive history" and replacing the 318 with a 440 or all the other changes. The hypocrisy of it it all is laughable, especially with all the AMD sheet metal hanging on a lot of these "real" cars. I like all the cars for what they, and life is way too short or filled with way too many more important things then to cry over fender tags or be slaves to them. Build it the way you like, drive the hell out of it, wear it out and use it up, rebuild it and do it again....

totally my bad. I completely misunderstood your post. im so glad thats not what you meant , my apologies

but now I understand what you meant and I couldn't agree more. as you can tell this subject hits a nerve sometimes. I will shut up now lol

I own a 70 Superbee. It is not a clone but I am building it with the options that I would have wanted on it if I could have bought it new. Examples, factory auto & changed to 4 speed, originally burnt orange & currently undecided on color. Plus a few other minor changes. So while not a clone how would it be classified? I see nothing wrong with cloning a car as something else. As long as if you decide to sell it you are truthfull about it. GM peps have been doing it for years with Camaros & Chevelles.

Meanwhile..........while folks are squabbling about stickers and VIN tag's, others are building, fixing, driving and enjoying their Mopars.............L8R

Most people don't know the difference between a Coronet, Coronet 440, Coronet 500, Coronet R/T, and a Super Bee PERIOD.

I am not selling it at Barrett Jackson, or anywhere else for that matter. If I do take to a car show, I am not goiing to explain to every swing dick out there the difference because 90% of the people don't know.

If your selling it, yes morally you should disclose it, but anyone who is looking to buy a factory R/T or Super Bee would usually do their homework and know what to look for and VIN.

WOW, I originally asked the question but am afraid to post lol.

I guess I am fortunate that my friends and family are simply happy I have a car I love and could care less about VINs. I also never realized how lucky I am that the local cruise night, which features a couple hundred cars every Friday during the summer, is full of people who love the hobby rather than a bunch of snobs. Maybe I should start parking my 'clown car' with the rat rod group, they seem to be the least judgmental lol.

But you guys did answer my question - I'll keep doing what I'm doing – building my car how I want it and keep calling it a Belvedere.

I didn't clone my car, I bought it as a clone. There was no way in hell I was going to be able to afford a GTX. I got laid off from work while I was looking for a car. So I consider myself LUCKY I have any Mopar! It's not like buyin a chevy. Most people that have seen my car just know it as a gtx so if I were to be talking to them about it and I said satellite sport they wouldn't know what I was talking about. It's just easier to call it the gtx. Sometimes I just call it a 68' plymouth. Other than the vin/fender tag it's closer to being a gtx than it is a SS. Sorry if it offends anybody but I don't have deep pockets. I'm a Mopar lover on a Yugo budget. I drive the wheels off it, even if it was a rare #'s car I would, then some of the die hards would complain about that. I didn't go without to park my car in the garage and look at it. When I bring my car to cruises/shows I know what the purists are thinking, but ya know what I don't give a flying F. IT'S MINE AND I LOVE IT!!!

Excellent points. I have a real GTX but it does not stop me from enjoying a reproduction of any kind. If you own a car, you can do what you want with it. Hopefully you will improve on it and if you turn it into a muscle car, I say go for it. I wouldn't know a clone if it bit me because I am interested in cars built to drive and enjoy. That's why I bought mine. It looks good, is numbers matching but is not a trailer queen. I bought it to drive and enjoy. Whether the numbers match or not is irrelevant.

When i read this crap, I think of the young guns that come here, the ones who really are just getting into the hobby. Those who don't know whats "allowed" (insert laugh), acceptable, permit-able in others eyes and get there minds made up over a couple letters and numbers in a VIN and it makes me sick. I remember reading about one such member, not sure if it was here or elsewhere but he bought i think it was a 69 or 70 RR, You could tell by his typing how excited he was, each time he posted was a joy to hear him, the smell of burnt rubber, the thunder when it (sorry) he said "her" was fired up, cruising the streets havin the time of his life. THEN, one day he was selling it, needed something easier on gas i think he said, everyone seemed to think it was curiously funny, but in a day or so it came out, he was at a friends house, one who knew MOPARS, he told him it wasn't a real RR, it was the terrible "clone", WOW, all that fun, the looks, speed, ride all down the drain because of the lack of two miserable letters, "RM" I thought man, what a Mopar enthusiast, and more, what a dirty shame an waste of fun and car. Ive had the real ones, ive had the cloned, if im building it, ill do what i want to have fun and enjoy the car and i commend anyone else who does it. I would never pass one off as real if i did sell it which is highly un-likly, that would be wrong, but as said, some are building, fixing, driving and enjoying there's, man do i agree, some are driving and building, cool concept. Im done with this, some will hunt down a possum to argue with, i think id rather go drive my wana bee and have fun.. Have a good day gentleman!

Well said Ron. Consider this horse beaten and dead. Let's get out on the road!

I've had a clone since '99. The previous owner told me it was originally a coronet 440. I've heard people talk smack about it. But I turned a die hard chevy fan into a mopar fan with my 383 clone. I think that makes a difference.

On the other hand, I just bought a real deal 1972 Charger Rallye last year. All #'s car with the exception of a 71 440 HP. Now I'm kinda understanding the frustration purists have. Since it isn't that particular year and model people look for, parts are really hard to come by. And seeing good original parts for my car on a clone is upsetting. I think if parts are abundant for these cars to clone then so be it.

If you don't like it don't look at it !!

Truer words were never spoken, not everybody can afford pure and numbers matching Mopars. What they think WHO CARES You own it not them!!

I sure am glad to see that a thread can go totally sideways without any participation from me. lol

This is my modded 69 RR, it's not a clone. or as one of you put it a clown! It's mine I like it, I drive it, and I am building it so if you don't like it then don't look at it ;)

Clones are just options put on a car that it didn't come with but could have if the original buyer had checked different boxes that's all. Us putting the stuff on later is just paying tribute to what should have been in our opinions.
