Is anyone going to the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit MI? This guy is!!! First timer.
I will be out there from Wed Aug 14 - Sat Aug 17.

I've been going since day one, 15 minute ride from my house.
I like to take my GTX during the weekday nights before the official Saturday cruise, lots of action and not crowded.
On cruise day I take my 73 Mustang, it's got ac and automatic plus it's a convertible for a good view, it's nice driver quality so I don't worry about it when I park somewhere and walk around.

I went in 2001, trailered my '69 over 1000 miles, then drove the wheels off it in D-E-T-R-O-I-T. It was awesome!! Well except for when I lost my way and ended up in some victorian neighborhood that had long since been burned out...me and my best bud in my bright orange, loud 4sp car...the only crackers for miles and all eyes on us. I told my buddy if we get a flat were driving the hell out of here on the rims...scary.

But it was an awesome orgy of cars!!

I know the homes you speak of. They are towards the City on the left side of the highway. I've driven past them before (non Dream Cruise visit) and often marveled at the beauty of the architecture in those residential neighborhoods that is still jaw dropping but has turned total ghetto now.

Just south of 8 Mile Rd. is a gorgeous area on the west side of Woodward--winding streets with enormous homes--Aretha Franklin STILL owns a home in there. Another of those areas is the Boston Blvd., Chicago Blvd. district just south of Highland Park. Many of the original top General Motors and Chrysler executives had homes in that district. A few of those homes are still selling in the high 6 figures (two that I know of are in excess of 1 million), but most can be had in the 100-200 M range.

I missed the first Woodward Dream Cruise (didn't hear of it until afterwards) but have attended every one since. It grew from Friday night and all day Saturday to the entire week preceding, then to the end of July and leading up to the event in August to now---virtually the entire summer! The traffic is much, much lighter during the unofficial nights, but still "cruise volume". The local residents purportedly hate it, but as long as everyone behaves themselves, they grin and bear it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
