I have a set of 1” firm feel torsion bars that I purchased about 5 years ago for my ’73 Roadrunner. I attempted to install them on the Roadrunner but couldn’t get the hex to line up? I tried everything, removed the cone bumper from the top control arm, backed out the adjuster bolt all the way, let the suspension hang, etc… nothing worked. I could get the bars installed only if I crank the adjuster bolt almost all the way in – then the hex would line up and the bars installed. But with the adjuster cranked almost all the way in, there is no adjustment remaining and the car just about sat on the ground. I put the old bars back in the car and put the FF bars on the shelf.

Fast forward to 2013…. I’ve been doing some upgrades on my ’74 Satellite and those torsion bars were calling me… so while the car was on the lift, I removed one of the old bars and tried to install the FF bars. Nope. Not a chance. I ran into the same issues again. Am I missing something of are these FF torsion bars junk?

I cant say if they had clocking issues 5 years ago or not. But I did just install FF bars on my E-bod w no issues...

Here's a quick update.... I just spoke with Dick at Firm Feel and he said he is familiar with the problem had problems with the index on these bars (1") and some of the larger bars. Told me to send him the bars and he will either repair or send me a new set. They are a "STAND UP" company!!!

Yes, those guys are great, i did my gear box, torsion bars, shocks, and rear sway bar mounts from them, and they are great, always answer questions, and always happy to talk to folks about their projects!

Wow! That really is a "stand-up" move! Would have been very easy to tell you to "stuff-yourself" after 5 years. I'll remember them!

Hey Markmine,

I went with the 1.06 TBs to upgrade my 74 Charger that I just redid. i had the exact same problem and it was me. I installed them just as you describe and the care was on the gorund with no turn left in the adjusting screws. After talking with Dick at FF, al I needed to do was put them in without the LCAs connected and then use a floor jack to raise the LCAs the 3-4 inches needed to bolt them on the spindlel. Problem solved and I had all the adjustment I needed. Took it on it's maiden voyage last week, handles like my wife's Vet!!
