What do you guys do to keep spiders out? I've sprayed Sevin around the shop repeatedly since i had it built and they're coming in droves.

Get a few mud daubers ... No spiders in my garage LOL! Actually I'm looking forward to hearing the solutions as my other garage has plenty.

is it that there's plenty of spider food ??? we got tons of box alder bugs here....

Spiders are tough because unlike other bugs, they hold their bodies up instead of dragging them preventing many deterrents from killing them. Foggers work well but are a pain, there is a material out there they will eat, I think it is the same stuff that kills wood bees, but will need to ask around

Glue boards are really the only effective thing for spiders. Direct spraying or fogging only works on contact with the spiders because as previously stated spiders keep their bodies off floor and residual chemical bug spray is rendered useless. I used these quite effectively against spiders in the past in basements, garages etc;

Lay them open the long way against walls with the rear perforation lip folded up, in corners, under/on top of furniture cabinets etc. the more the merrier...works surprisingly well. If you get caught in it (or any object) accidentally a little oil will release the glue..(cooking oil if stuck to a pet).

Might sound stupid....but i was deathly afraid of spiders in my room when i lived with my parents. They seemed to keep coming. An old timer told my mother to put a hedge apple in the room cause spiders hate em. It worked. They re green round brain looking apple like things. Thats all i know. We put em in our basement to keep the spiders down

Osage oranges??? I can get my hands on them. I set off a couple bug bombs this evening. New shop, don't want them taking it over already.

It's the dirt daubers that I have problems with. They're everywhere! Regular piders are not so bad but I fight the daddy long legs. They seem to be always present.

Oh Hell NO! Time to break out the bug bombs, traps, AK47's, and even an explosive or two. No spiders on the forhead.

You blokes have it easy, we have spiders over here that the mice ride around on, like cavalry.
You guys got all kinds of creepy crawly things down there that I don't want to deal with, I'm surprised so many of you make it through childhood.

I use bug bombs in my work shed, It gets rid of them for a few months at least. I usually set off 2 or 3 and choke the little bastards.

from Yahoo today:

Spiders are not fond of citrus. In a spray bottle, mix water and unsweetened lemon or lime juice. Wipe your countertops with the mixture or spray down doorways and windowsills. You can deter spiders in your garden by spreading around lemon, orange, or lime peels.

I remember now that my Dad and I mixed citric acid and water for wood bees and the spiders left as well.

Hedge Apples worked for me as well. We have Wolf spiders around here, creepy looking things.
