My second car was a 1976 Doba. I really loved that car but forgot about it as with most things from the disco era. Lately I've become interested in restomods and when I say this Hermance design image the concept was crystalized. The paint scheme I've chosen is black with green flake (it shows black at night and green in sunlight) and cream for the offsetting colour

I spent five months looking fore the right car at the right price. It's a 75 fully optioned out and last driven in 87. It has 60M miles and I bought it from the original owner. Here are some images as we found it in Vulcan Alberta.

We inflated the tires and they stayed inflated. we installed a new battery, disconnected the coil wire and turned the engine over for 10 minutes. Two cans on inhibitor and fresh gas were put in the tank. The coil wire was reconnected and it started right away. Everything in the car works except for the air conditioner.

I had it trucked home to Oakville. It is now in the shop to have work on the transmission and the rear brakes converted to disc brakes and set up for the custom wheels. Meanwhile I removed the rear seat and brought it home to see how the Corinthian leather would clean up. It really came out good

This is my second collector car. I'm toying with the idea of using it as a tow vehicle for a trailer queen. If I should live so long and can find the $$$ the queen would be a 1958 De Soto Adventurer

That looks like a great project and that seat turned out awesome! Congrats and good luck with it!

ooooooooh! me likey! that's going to be a very cool color combo. and i like that you kept a green in the scheme....

im def subscribed to this thread....:happy1:

Nice score. I'm envious of your upholstery, my soft Corinthian leather is not soft and has been officially disavowed by Corinthia.
What size are the wheels in the Hermance rendering? 19s, maybe 20s?

Sorry but I don't know the size. It's something I need to figure out. I'll post pictures in due course.

I was just standing here comparing the rendering (on my phone) to the real thing (my 76)... It looks like the artist took some liberties with the quarter panel line: raised it, rounded it and gave it some definition that the real car doesn't have. That lack of a "shoulder" or beltline where the c pillar meets the quarter has always been my least favorite design feature of this car (unless you can count the huge bumpers as a "design feature"). Still, I think its the best looking car of the era from the Big Three. Congratulations.
By the way, the above isn't meant as criticism to the artist, its a beautiful rendering and gives me hope that one day MY 'doba will be beautiful, too

I hadn't noticed the shoulder line before. I thought it was the lighting. You're making me think.

My 76 to this day was my favorite car I have ever owned, wish I still had it.

I'm seeing it on a tiny screen, could be just the way the artist decided to render the reflections. He (or she) also trimmed up the chrome grill surround to make it a little less "disco", I just removed mine completely...waay easier than trying to massage chromed pot metal.

You may have provided me a solution to a problem. I have damage on the chrome grill surround. Can you reply with a picture of how yours turned out.

I've included an image of a different paint scheme that I was considering. Gives you another look at the shoulder line.

Black at night with green in the sun. Love it, post the color codes you use!

Can't wait to see how she looks, be sure to take pics night and day time!

Didn't know about Doba's they kind of look like a 75 charger just more....Frap

I remember perusing that one on Kijiji, glad it went to a good home!

Had it fitted for new tires and wheels today. Going with 20 by 8.5 with a 265/35 R20 on front and 22 by 10 on rear with a 295/30 R20 tire.

This may take a while. My timeline is to get it mechanically setup this summer and have it painted in the winter.

You're right about Kijiji. I had looked at a couple in Ontario but encountered a lot of rust and salt rot. No salt in Alberta.

I've been following your adventure as well. Good luck with it. I'll be back out west probably in September. I'll be taking off most of the trim parts, wheels and rear drums. If you need any of these parts, let me know and I'll bring them out with me.
