I bought this car in 1991 from the original owner for $1,200, (and I didn't even want it!), the story goes like this: In april of 1991 I was in Burbank Ca where I worked, I was on my way to lunch when I noticed a '73 or '74 Road Runner in front of me, I didn't think much about it....nobody wanted those cars in the early 90's it was either '68 or '69 Road Runner's people were looking for, (they still required a smog check and nobody wanted to deal with that). Well on my way back from lunch I noticed the same car parked on the street with a for sale sign in the window....he was asking $1,700, well I was about to leave when this gentleman asked me if I had any questions about the car?, he was the owner and was waiting for his wife to pick him up so he could leave the car there for the rest of the day. It was then I found out he was the original owner and had ordered it new, it was a hipo 360/auto. w/power steering, pwr disc brakes and a/c, it was also equipped with the performance axle package, (3.55's). Anyways I reluctantly took it for a test drive...and was surprised how quick it was, and the a/c worked great!!, I got back from the drive and the man said well?, are you interested?, I just said I didn't want to spend that much right now, he then said make an offer, I said $1,200...he thought for a second and said ok, I was kinda wishing he would have said no, anyways I bought it.
The story was he was gonna give it to his grandson.....but when he got his license he didnt want it, he wanted a 4x4 truck, so grandpa figured he'd sell it and give him the money. Anyways it turned out to be a great car, it was all original with 80,000 miles on it and ran and drove great.....it was actually just as quick and fast as my friends stock '68 383/auto Road Runner.[/I] 031.JPG032.JPG

I like hearing neat stories like this. Back when people weren't worried about value and rarity and musclecars were just used cars. Thanks for posting.

I like reading stories about how people found their cars too. I bought my '69 Coronet 500 for $1,500 in 1980 from the original owner as well, the story was very similar. They were driver's only back then and the collectability just wasn't there. As for the '74 Road Runner...I sold it to a friend in 1992, and he stills owns it. You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed the story.

In the second pic, is that a white Turbo Buick? Just sold a Grand National, such fast cars. Mopar just kept calling me back, nice pics and a good story too!

Actually the car in the picture was a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass (my mother's) it was V6 2 barrel powered....I wish it were a T-Type Buick, I'd still have it!!. Glad you liked the story and pics....I wish I has taken some better ones.
