TTI Header Coating? Opinions Please

TTI Headers

101_0023.jpgSpend it now and coat them with TTI, decreases heat and look great!

Black would be my choice too, not a huge fan of the silver look. Maybe old school white! ha ha ha
Did they coat the insides of yours too?

Reed

From what I could see they did Reed......Wish TTI or Dougs would come with a black coating though. Saved myself about $10...lol Take out gas/travel, probably upside down. Ah well, at least they are the higher temp black I guess

I have the chrome TTI's on my Coronet, (my nephew bought them but never used them, I got them for $300.) They've been on the car for ten years....8 years as a daily driver. This is NOT a show car, so I could care less if they're discolored. Never any leaks...they've been through tons of heat, driving in L.A. traffic and to Vegas many times with 3.91's, buzzing at 4 grand the entire way.
The ceramics would be nice though...I'll give these another 10 years, and maybe change them....LOL!!

...Thanks Cuda chick for your insight. The only problem with stainless hardware it loosens to easily. So Black hardware is a must. Loose header bolts burns gaskets and messes up flanges.

Anytime snakeoil!! :D I've got some old Jet-Hot coated Hookers on my 340 (mild 400+ hp. street car) and have never had any trouble with my stainless bolts backing out. Interesting ... I'll keep an eye on 'em. Thanks back for the tip!

If we are going old school, perhaps a rust colored ceramic coating!!!

Anyway, I appreciate all the thoughts, and the picture too is great. I am convinced that buying the TTI headers is best choice for me since I have a 'B' rather than 'RB' block. Generic "big block" Mopar headers will be made to fit a 440, and will most likely fit my 383 poorly, and/or hang down lower. The lower under hood temperatures are also a big selling point for me.

Now to create some pain in the wallet and order them...

TTI Ceramic for sure !!!!!!!!

I would definitely go with TTI ceramic coated headers. I've installed them on my last two resto mod cars and love them. The fit is great and they look good for a long, long time. The first set I installed was in a 70 Challenger with a Herb McCandless built stroker 440 with Indy heads. The second was on my 340 Duster. Both cars have the complete TTI 3 inch mandrel bent systems complete out the back.

On A body cars the fit is real tight when you go to a 3 inch system. The fit was perfect all the way.

definitely TTI ceramic!!!

So, any suggestions from anyone as far as who to order the headers from?

I would like to support quality vendors to this site or vendors who have given great service to their customers.

Let me know if you have any suggestions - I will order them Monday...

TTI Vendor

You can order them directly from TTI or you can check with Mancini racing to see if the are running a special on them. If you can afford it try to get the whole system at one time. They gave me a little price break when I did. Every little bit helps especially now in today's economy....

if there is a sponsoring vendor here on FBBO that would be another option.

Hope this helps.

I purchased a set of older headers at Spring Fling in Cal 1 year ago and they needed recoating. The headers were Davis Step Headers and had been used in a 64 Plymouth. I have had many occasions to use TTI headers in the past so I called Sam and asked him who to use. Sams Headers are the best for fit wear and installation but these headers can be installed with the engine in place so I thought that I woud try them out. I took them to a place in Vernon Ca. Engineered Applications Inc and had them coated they did a great job and the turn around was 1 week. I don't care for chrome because they blue out to easy. This company has 3 coatings Black, Satin and Shiny Ceramic Coatings. These headers were in four pieces on each side, they are slip tube and were coated inside and out. 1-323-585-2894. My car is in the forum but as yet this is not fired up I am still waiting for the cooling system.

Does anyone know how the dynomax mufflers are that come with the TTI exhaust kits? Anyone installed on a small block and how do they sound?

Walker Dyno Max Mufflers

Dynomax mufflers sound great to me. They are real mellow until you stand on it. Then they sound fantastic, leaving just enough of an exhaust note for people to take notice as you idle by. Love 'em !!!!! They have a nice rumble and sound deeper when used in a big block car. They sound even better at idle with a nice cam.....

I've used them n both the Stroker 440 Herb McCandless built engine in the '70 Challenger R/T, and with the 340 in my Duster.

Previously I always used Flow Master. They sound good too, but are louder than the Walker Dynomax's are.

Just my 2 cents........

You have a fantastic looking car - thanks for sharing. I can only hope mine will eventually look that nice. For now, it will have to be a beater/driver until I am ready to restore it.

At any rate, I ordered the headers today. About 1 large to get 'em (ceramic), but hopefully they will be worth it. I added the O2 sensor bungs so I can add them later if I want - I figure that is a cheap $32 if I later add fuel injection. I just have to wait three weeks for them :-(

P.S. I checked the forum, and I didn't find vendors that handled TTI, so I bought them from Mancini Racing since people had good things to say about them. No price break, but at least hopefully I am keeping some of the good guys in business!!

My TTI's are just the way they come with the nickel coating. They have been on my car about 2 years in this pic. I did not have any coating put on them I just took them the way they come with the nickel coating. Ron

So these would be Dynomax super turbos, read some reviews here an there and seems people like the low mellow tones even with a small block and 2.5 inch exhaust. I think i just may give them a go! Thanks for the feedback!

I have wondered this too. I have Flowmasters on the Charger though. I was considering a switch to their 3.0 inch system and was concerned that their standard muffler may not give the sound that i like.

What engine is in your Charger and is it stock? Automatic or stick shift??
Keep in mind you will loose a little torque on the bottom end if you increase the exhaust diameter.

It basically boils down to personal preference with sound. I still like the way Flow Masters sound, but since I have tried the Walker turbos I like them a little better.

I have used the set ups that IIT has on all of the raffle cars that we have built the sounds and fit were great. The only one that wew had to do any welding on was the one with side exit on the Valiant.

I use the Dyno-Max Ultra-Flows on my 63 as I love the sound and I race thru the full exh as they are good for racing with not hardly any back pressure. Ron
