Ok guys, how many of you have stuffed 3'" exhaust under a '66-67 b-body? I have a '66 Belvedere that I want 3" exhaust down the car & over the axles. Now to throw in another factor I'm going to be moving the springs in 3" with the MP kit down the road. Yes the stock tank is still there too and I want to keep it there.
So throw me some tomatos!
1~ is it possible with the springs in the stock location?
2~ is it possible with the springs moved inward?

Thanks again.

I'm running a 3" TTI in my 66 Belvedere and it fits fine. Go for it!

Thanks Meep-Meep, wondering if you were going to chime in. So are your springs moved inward or in stock placement?

Totally stock.

AHHH there it is. Looks like your springs are in stock placement. Also looks like the pipes are tight going between the springs and the gas tank.

stock...3 inch will squeeze in....if you move the springs...nope

Any good custom exhaust shop should be able to install a 3" system with no problems. Do what ever suspension changes you want to make first and have the exhaust system installed last.
Your main problem will be to make choices like headers vs stock exhaust manifolds, electric cut-outs or no cut-outs, which mufflers to use.....ect....good luck

I already have my headers and mufflers. Im not doing cut outs, at least I had not thought of doing that. I'm mostly trying to get this darn thing on the road so I can have some seat time, its been too long since I've been behind the wheel and my wife's condition has dampered most hobby interests for a while (hopefully she'll get feeling better soon). I figured on driving this car this summer as long as I can get it together before its gone and then next winter doing the spring move.
Thanks guys.

Yeah, they are tight, but nothing hits.

Your main problem actually, as you suspected, is the spring/tank fit. You may have to decide priority, 3" pipe or stock/relocated springs. Having both you may have to consider exiting the pipes with trumpets in front of the rear tires, or a fuel cell.

I have considered the fuel cell idea but I liked keeping the stock tank if I could. My other thought was to bring the exhaust over the axle and dump them down right behind the rear wheels toward the ground. I'm sure it'll be louder than going out the back but better than dumping down before the rear axle.

Full 3" exh on my 63 with the tail pipes all the way to the rear bumber. Its all stock in the back as it has stock wheelwells and the springs are in the stock location. In this setup the 3" tailpipes fit on my 63 with room to spare (but not alot of room to spare).

I mini tubbed and moved springs on my 66 coronet. Springs hit the tank and the filler neck wouldn't fit without fabricating a new one. Had to go fuel cell.

With the springs moved 3 inh in its just about impossible to install tail pipes .i had to move my springs back out to stock to put tail pipes on but its worth it to me to be able to hear the radio or a passenger talk. Also had problem with springs rubing the tank and making a rubing sound continously on my 67 satellite

Well crap, I was worried about the springs also clearing the gas tank. Thanks for all the valuable info guys. I now have to consider my options, which are dwindling or altering! lol.
Thanks again.

3" TTI X pipe from my Hooker super comp headers. Springs in stock location.
