Repainting Headers...

I have pulled the old, tired 383 out of my Satellite, and am contemplating re-using the headers for my 440 that's going back in. If I am not mistaken, I can use the same headers. My question is this:

The headers are rusty, and I would like to clean them up and repaint them before putting them back in with the new engine. Is there any truly functional high-heat paint that will work - and not simply burn off?

I like the headers, but hate the way the paint just disappears, only to be quickly replaced with rust.

Or you could send them out to be coated, not to sure of the cost.
 
I have used stove coat back in the mid 90's and it held up great. Not sure if that same formula still exists, but this time I got the POR15 black velvet paint and will try that. It has silicon dioxide in it and I know that is a component for extreme temp paints.

Recently had that done locally on a set of Doug's headers. Found out a lot of the same places that do powder coating, also do the ceramic coating as well. Hi-temp Black ceramic coating cost me $200 and some change.
 
We repainted our with, don't laugh, bbq paint...... Seems to be working pretty darn good out here in the Arizona heat.
 
When I try bbq black on my Harley I'll let you know. As far as experience goes,I've never seen any paint hold up for more than 30 seconds.
 
I beed blasted mine, and painted with some 2000 degree paint. it a bit higher in price but this stuff doesn't burn off like the cheaper stuff they sell at O'reilly's or autozone.

I ended up using 3 cans to get several heavy coats.

I tried some 1300-2000* VHT silica ceramic coating in flat silver "Very high temperature flame proof" header paint, in an aerosol spray paint & primer, that you bake on in an oven, I did several coats as they recommended, baking it on some 68 HP manifolds, {not worth the effort, headers are so damn much better} that I had ground all the casting flash & porous casting marks off of & then ported them, it actually lasted a few years, but the cam break-in period, was already done & then started the car a few times & let the heat cycle thru them & cool off completely a few times... It started to flake a little, after a couple years... my best attempt.... But I have yet to actually find paint available to the general public, that is actually worth a Chit...
