I was welding in a little patch where the roof meets the quarter panel. I had what I thought, was a good barrier up to keep sparks of the glass, but a couple made it by. Now I have these tiny craters like stone chips, but on the rear glass. I know this is tempered instead of having a membrane. Will it crack the first bump, or hard launch? Has anyone ever gotten a "Safelite" resin repair on an older Mopar, and would that work on rear glass?

Obviously I'd rather not by new glass and gasket, but I don't want to have my window blow out either. What are your thoughts guys? Thanks.

I doubt you'll have a problem....just cover it better next time.

Weld sparks can cause the small pieces of metal in them to stick to the glass and also cause pitting. Same thing can also happen with grinding sparks.

You wont have any "breakage issue" IMHO. Just a small case of the fuglies....

Thanks guys. Things are finally coming together. I want to be driving in the spring, new rear glass would have been a setback.

Get out your magnifying glass and take a good look. Make sure that no tiny balls of weld are stuck in there, they'll turn brown and rusty over time. Pick them out if you find any.

Although not a great repair, you can brush in some clear nail polish when it's clean to cover some of the cratering. Crystal clear china and glass glue works as well.

If all else fails, place a FBBO sticker over the weld scar. :)

The glass repair kits are only for laminated (windshield) glass... not tempered glass.
