So on my '69 Super Bee, was out driving today, made a left hand U turn and while doing it there was a loud clunk, and then all of a sudden I lost all brakes but it was intermittent. Did a quick look around and nothing seemed unusual. Drove a little further to a big empty parking lot for safety and testing. Car has brakes when I turn right, but when I turn left no brakes whatsoever, pedal goes to the floor, and the brake warning light comes on. Something must have happened because the left front tire also has heaps more camber than I remember. Got her towed home and now she sits in the garage waiting repairs. There is no brake fluid leaking anywhere, and the master cylinder is full of fluid. Brakes are stock: front discs, rear drums, Wilwood 570 fluid.

Is there a proportioning valve that controls the front left to right brakes?

Any ideas please?

prop valve controls front to rear, did you get a kink in the brake line that goes to the left wheel or a blocked line etc. also check your caliper/drum.

Well, I found the camber problem. Left upper ball joint popped out, WTF?! Thankfully I've got new stuff waiting to go in. Just wonder with the increased camber when turning left if that is causing the no brake issue when turning left only.

whoa, that was lucky, maybe when you were turning and the ball joint popped it made the wheel or something else hit the brake line or a fitting and damage it, causing near to none brake fluid to the caliper?

Yea, was thinking the same thing. Hopefully this balljoint is easy enough to repair with the FSM. Have a BIG cruise night (800+ cars) that I want to make on Saturday so the clock is ticking on getting it done.

I just hope the upper arm wasn't damaged to where I can't install a new balljoint.

Ahhhhhh. You are gonna need a control arm. In a pinch, you could have the ball joint welded in as aa temporary fix until you can get new arm, ball joint and alignment

Ah crap!? Its not merely a screw in ball joint? I've got the ball joint.

No, if it came out like it did, it would have taken the threads with it. You really can't repair the threads, you could zap it as a temporary fix, but its best to just get a new control arm.

Damnit!! Thanks guys. Now need to decide on the QA1 or PST upper control arm.

If that one went the other side may not be far behind. Good thing that it didn't cut the brake line. Good luck with the repairs.

Please don't drive it till you fix that issue. it's going to break and cause a lot more damage to the car, you and maybe other.

You should be able to an upper A Arm from someone here, or at a salvage rather cheap, and not a hard fix. Just mark all your adjustiments and before you disassemble it. I would still take it to the alignment shop afterwards, but it will keep you close. or just take to them with and they will do it for you.

Depending how old the ball joints are, I would just go a head and replace all of them and ties rods if needed. be a good weekend project. just hope you don't have issues with any of the other A arms.

Got the car fixed last Thursday, and swapped out both upper arms with QA1 tubular arms. And heck no, would never drive the car with it busted up like that. When I called my friends for help when the car broke, they were like "oh you can drive the car home, just leave lots of room between other cars." Bunch of dumbasses. I have no brakes, somewhat. Idiots!! Got the car towed home safely. Got the car aligned and WOW, she drives so much better and the steering wheel is actually straight now!!! The rest of the front end parts are very solid, no movement, so hopefully this was a one off issue.

Whew!! man that sucks, 440. at least you and da bee are ok.

whereabouts did you get it aligned in NW indiana? im looking for a good shop to do an alignment...im out in Lombard IL...

I actually went to a Firestone shop at the recommendation of a friend who too has a '69 Super Bee. Guy did fantastic work and looked right at home with the old girl, knew right where to go for adjustments and everything. Its the Firestone dealer in Merrillville, IN 46410.

I was amazed at how high tech it was. All four wheels had sensors placed on them (and the guy was careful enough to tape up the wheel attachments so not to scratch the wheels). It was neat watching him align the car and make adjustments.
