My original vinyl top was a shredded, dried up mess, so I tore it off. Then I went to work with gasket remover spray (worked ok) and Goof Off (worked even better, too bad I only had a 4 oz. can) to get rid of the glue on the roof. Thought I'd check with you guys - could you recommend a nasty chemical that would help me get rid of that dried up glue?

(Btw - Mama Mopar's boys in 1968 didn't waste a lot of that precious FF-1 paint, it seems... paint was sprayed on really thin underneath the vinyl - primer was showing through in places. That does explain the rust issues often experienced underneath vinyl tops...)

There is a thread here about the vinyl o glue,My friend use to gas,but its not safe but works well. But what chemical is safe.Go to advance search ,and type in Vinyl Glue Remover.hope this helps

Thanks guys. Can't believe I missed that thread - lots of good info. Acetone is nice, just can't buy any larger quantities of it here... will check if local shops sell the 3M stuff too.

Is it still soft?

If not, slap an 80-grit pad on a DA sander and go to town.

Even Media Blasting it off takes time!

I used laquer thinner to remove mine. Just pour on a puddle, use a scraper blade and plenty of rags...repeat as needed.

Try a shop that sells fiberglass supplies. You should be able to get acetone in 5 gallon pails.

Tried a generic glue/sticker remover laced with acetone - gunk peeled off sail panel and roof edge with very little effort:

You can also us a DA sander.........should sand the top down anyway and at least prime it I would think..........
