Hi all when i shift gears on my column shifter it does not go into gear all the time in the right position on the column numbering.

So say i want to shift from Park to Reverse it sometimes goes further to Neutral position on the column.

Does this sound like a linkage problem to the transmission? Or maybe inside the actual transmission?

I'm far from a mechanic but i can fix basic stuff on my car.

The car once in gear drives fine... it does seem a little sluggish but i really don't know since this is my first Satellite and only my second older car that i have owned.

Any advise or should i take this to a mechanic and hope not to get raped.

There is an adjustment procedure in the FSM, but I don't have it handy right now.

Sounds like it is in the adjustment, and it had bushings on the frame and side ot the tranny where your cross bar sets and they get worn and cause it to get loose so you could check that. There is a big bushing in the end of the steering column and it can get wore out are fall out and cause a lot of slack in it. You'll need to get some one inside moving the shifter and watch it and see if any of it is loose. If not it is just out of adjustment. Good Luck Ronnie
