I am ordering a new under hood wiring harness from Year One and the options were as original, or as original with modifications for the three wire alternator and electronic ignition. Also ordering the dash wiring harness. It indicated the electronic ignition modification was for the Mopar electronic ignition, and if you had any other electronic ignition setup, it was recommended that you buy the as original harness and modify it. I believe my electronic ignition modification is a Pertronix. I would like to have under hood wiring with no mods and have no problems with going to the Mopar electronic ignition if necessary. Is the Mopar electronic ignition wiring any different than the Pertronix? Is the Mopar electronic ignition a good system? Does the Mopar support operation of the factory tach?
Also, should I ensure my three wire alternator is as close to the original in output to make sure the amp meter wiring does not melt the firewall block again. My car is an original AC car and I believe the original alternator was only 48 amps. I am not sure you can buy anything under 60 amp these days, but the car has no mods such as lighting or stereo that should require anymore than the original draw. Is bigger better when replacing the alternator, or is going bigger just creating more possibility of a failure in a known weak leak in the firewall connector block or amp meter wiring?
Thanks!
