Back in the day we used to tale these cars out and run the dog sh$$ out of them. Someone on occasion would blow one up and get a replacement block. The question is what numbers would they put on the engine pad indicating a replacement since it would not be the the original

None, and sometimes the replacement blocks do not have the size cast on the block. Then have to measure bores to tell what size you have.

A friend of mine has a replacement 400 in his 70 Cuda....no numbers on the pad but the casting on the side says what it is.

I think the mechanics installing "warranty blocks" were supposed to re-stamp them with the original VIN. This is why some vin numbers are all screwed up. They may not have used a gang holder to stamp them. Many mechanics skipped this step, I think.

I remember a buddy years ago having a correct Mopar stamp set.

Now guys fake them by using a laser or edm to reproduce the original fonts on a piece of tool steel.

I know at one point not to long ago there was a lot of engine re stamping passing off a number matching engine I seem one when a guy was trying to pass on off on me. It scared me off because of the font looked different from what I have seen in the past
