Well I've started collecting parts for my stroker build. A new to me 5.7 block that cost 100 bucks, Callies 4.05 stroker crank new to me cost 450, forged 6.125 rods with the big end 2.1 and the small end .927 spanking new 230, used 6.1 lifters with retainers 75 bucks, 5.7 heads new to me 150 greenbacks.
My Charlies oil pan and pick up will be re-used along with the timing cover. I'll get a new balancer, factory or aftermarket is still up in the air. My chrome valve covers may get re-used, but I'm leaning toward the oem's that I have and mounting old school style breathes. Cam is still undecided. Pistons that I've been eyeing are from Wiesco and are 11 to 1 with the stock 85cc heads.

Just thought I would put this out there and see what happens with the comments. I'm still gathering parts, so that when it's time, I just need to swap over a few parts and be done in a couple hours.

I am curious, what is this going into/ also have looked at the Arias pistons. I've seen quite a few of the stroker builds use them and they take a serious beating, and people have been happy. Sounds like a blast!

My 64 Polara 500 has a 5.7 hemi in it, but I want more power. You can check my build thread in the 62-65 section titled "late model hemi into early b bodies", I show how/what/where/why in it.

I'm also trying to keep my total costs down, but the pistons will be the most expensive at aboout 650-800 bones. I found a set of forged pistons, but the pin size was to big at .947 for way cheap on ebay.

Given any thought to just using a used Pro-Charger set-up? Way easy horsepower increase. Ability to boost it up with just a pulley change. First time I tried it I was hooked.

Dave, I did think about it, but the cost is something way out of my reach. Doing the stroker, I can buy parts as funds allow.

5.7 keep building the 392 get it up and running.......then start saving for the supercharger!!! you can never have to big of a garage and you can never have to much horsepower. lol usa

I hear ya!!

Sounds like a blast. What kind of power level are you looking for? What intake will you run?

I'm looking to be around 625 at the crank when I'm done. Also, want it to be NA, so I'm gonna shoot for 11 to 1 or a tad more as a huffer doesn't seem likely in the future.

625 N/A out of a 5.7 based block is gonna be tough but I don't think it will be impossible. Are you planning on injection or carb?

Huffers are for ricers...LOL

I do appreciate the power you can make under boost but a good n/a engine set up right can be just as fun.

I been reading on the internet. ( I know some times good but most of the time it's bad) but I read that some people are building 392 and then having the bore increase to .40" over which brings up the CI to 407 I think it was. But what this allowed was to use more common Chevy small block pistons. I have no experience in this just have read it. I'll try to dig up some links if you want. Just as a thought to save some money on pistons and I not sure if you plan on having any machining don't to the block or not.

Chevy piston?
Yeah from my understanding Chevy small block 350 pistons would fit with the cylinder bored out. But I guess it does have to be Chevy piston. Since pistons are ordered by measurement and not by engine manufactore.

I'm behind on what Chevy piston would fit a modern HEMI. If it were for an LA engine, there would be a small valve relief issue and the angle it is on.
