Well the boys and I have been talkin about racein our cars for a while now and the time has come. My buddy has a '71 Javalin with a warmed over 401 in it and he and I have been talkin smack for some time now about who's faster and the time has come to find out. Another bud that tunes my car told me I needed more carb so I bit the bullitt and bought a new Holley 850 with vacuum secondaries. He's gonna do what he does best and wake up the Cordobeast up some more. We'll see come Sept. 27 what happens. I'll keep you updated on the progress and will have some pics of the race. Bruce Oh I forgot to tell you I've never raced on a drag strip before. It should be an experiene.

hay Bruce that's going to be fun can't wait till we get there so I can have at it with Bill. Bob

the 71 Javelin w/401 will have a considerable weight advantage over a Cordoba... Have fun, it's no big deal, you'll pick it rather quickly I'm sure...

what kind of mods have been done to both cars ??

Well Budnicks the Javalin in .30 over with flat tops and a balanced bottom. Stock rods and crank. Stock ported heads not sure on cam size but mine is lopier. Holley intake and 730 carb. He had it on a chassis dyno and got 345 hp at 6k rpm. Manual shift 727 auto with a 444 geared stock AMC posi. The Cordobeast is a stock balanced '69 HP 440 bottom with big valve 906 heads ported and polished 525 lift cam a Edlebrook Torker II intake and soon an 850 Holley carb. Manual shift 727 and a 3.91 sure grip. No dyno specs. The beast also had Hooker big tube headers 2 1/2" exhaust with Flomaster mufflers. The Javalin has small tube Flotech headers with 2" exhaust and old school turbo mufflers. There's the specs of both cars. Let me know what you think. Bruce

Sounds like a really interesting race coming up! I'm an AMC guy ('68-'70 AMXs esprcially) and Cordoba appreciator too. Whoever wins makes me happy. I just wanna see 'em run good!
David
p.s. I'll pick Javelin for the "most likely to succeed" award though. Weight consideration is the reason for my guess.

Cordoba sounds like it's a fun car to drive, but the much lighter Javelin, the light car set up & gears has an advantage... if they both had the same power, even if your car made a little more HP/TQ, he probably wins... Just because of a light-weight advantage, probably nearly 700-800#'s, that's 0.70-0.80 seconds in a 1/4 mile, if they were evenly matched in HP/TQ, that because takes allot more power, just to overcome the weight disadvantage... good luck either way, let us know what happens, razreddobie sorry I'm not trying to be a buzz-kill or kill-joy, I hope you do win, but from what you described, that's honestly how I see it {I could be completely wrong too}... maybe get some drag radials or slicks, just to help you launch a little better & 60ft-330ft better, getting the "doba" off the line quicker, out in front quicker, make him run you down, maybe that could even you guys up a little more...

Sounds like fun! However no offense, I think the AMC will pervail.... However, I am interested in knowing more about dobabeast!

Mike

that Cordoba runs strong I drove it I rode in the Javelin and the doba fills faster we will see come race day.Bob

Well guys thanks for the honesty and opinions. Thankfully it's all in fun but I still think the Cordobeast will take the win. My buds wife will be filming it so there will be no doubts. We're doin a best out of 3 so I mite have a chance. Thanks again, Bruce

A light Javilin? Ask him the weight as listed on the reggie.

I can't wait to see how this turns out. I have a motor home 440 that I plan to put in my Charger. Now I will look for another for my Doba.

I'm rooting for the Mopar and hoping you are a natural born christmas tree killer

Sounds like a lot of fun. I buddy of mine has been dragging his heals putting his '70 or '71 Buick Skylark with a 455 together. I've been wanted to race it for awhile but at this rate I don't think he'll ever get it together. Every time I bug him about it, he has excuses.

Pittsburgh Raceway Park in New Alexandria Pa. It's a small local track about 20 miles east of Pittsburgh on Rt. 22.
UPDATE!!!!!!!! Got the new carb on and my buddy got everything tuned and ready. I haven't drivin it yet but my buddy says it's freaky fast for the size of the car. We'll see in about a week.

Well folks race day is over and the good news is I ran a 13.89, a 13.74, and a 13.71. The bad news is my Javalin buddy ran a 13.29, a 13.11 and a 12.89. Thankfully his last pass wasn't against me. He spanked a rice burner on that one. I was very pleased with my Cordobeast and it's performance and it was a HELL of a lot of fun. I did tree my opposition all three passes. The last time was my other buddy Mr. B a seasoned ( but rusty ) drag racer. Sorry Bob I had too Tell them. We are already planning to do it again. Hats off to my Javalin buddy Randy he's got the faster car. Another buddy Bill will be posting video later. Hope you enjoy it. Bruce

It was one heck of a night!! It was also my first night ever drag racing. The Cordobeast was exactly that.. a beast.. Thats a whole lot of car to launch.. It was blast to all be together as a group and grudge racing each other.. I wasnt able to actually watch the race, sine I went right before him every time... Hopefully my attempt to upload the video works... This is video my wife took of the 2nd race between the Cordoba and the Javelin.. Enjoy gang...
