Working on a 70 superbird I read that all birds came with Kelsey Hayes 4 piston brakes on them but the one I working on has bendix 1 piston brakes on it. The build sheet has a code 41 on line 6 under brakes. I don't know help please! Thanks

build date and model year are not the same thing. If its a 70 model year it probably had the newer brake style. if they did things by build date when you went to the parts store they would ask you for the build date instead of the model year

image.jpgI'm lost I was told that parts on the cars were manufacture the year before the cars were built. I don't do # matching builds normally! So this is new to me! My builds usually are fast, cool, pretty so All the help you guys give is so appreciated!!!!! This is a friends car

They had single piston calipers. I've owned two numbers cars. Both had disks. One came with a manual drum master cylinder with booster.

If you had one with a manual drum master cylinder, someone changed it.they were all disc cylinders that exited on the engine side, drum cylinder didn't.

I thought all the 'Birds had B29 build dates on fender tags...that would be November, right?

or am I thinking of something else?

A car with a 12-69 build date would be a 1970 model car....iirc, all 70 cars came with Bendix brakes. Very few manufacturers made 'mid' year changes like that and a Jan 1 date would place the build mid year as far as the auto mans go especially if it was something federally mandated. For example, if something that was mandated by the fed, then the change usually was made on anything that was built from Jan 1 and forward....and I don't think changing to a different brake was a fed deal back then. At least I don't recall that.

Actually it's B30.

August 1st was the production start of the next model year so a car built on 8/1/69 is the first of the 1970 model year. So 70 model year parts would have to be made and ready for the 8/1 assembly date.
Yes single piston disc for 1970 cars. Uses the 70-2 B/E setup.
