Still looking for a fan for my Belvedere. Most of the big cfm single electric fans that will fit my 22" rad are too thick by their listed specs. I have with bolt heads 3 1/4" of space to claim from the water pump pulley.

The black magic fans would be a perfect fit except for their thickness. Has anyone run them? Is their height on the shroud that could be trimmed off?

I also saw one of these http://shop.perma-cool.com/19117-High-Perf-Electric-Fan-18-2950-CFM-19117.htm and thought it might be decent to mount into my sheet metal shroud? Never seen anyone running one.

My other option is the custom shroud Wizard makes for this car with 4 9" spall fans at 543cfm each. Just seems like not enough? They use spall fans and there is an S curve spall fan of the same size at 630cfm each that I could probably get instead.

Just can't seem to find a fan that will let this thing sit and idle. Moving is no issue but I can't get the airflow.

I ended up getting a Lincoln Mark VIII fan (which came to me from another member here that put on his 68 RR)...pulls some serious CFM's. but my radiator is 26 inch.

I was looking at the Lincoln fan but from what I read they are over 4" thick?

Try cooling components they might be able to help you out. I think they have fans that are under 3" deep. I used one of their 4" deep fan & shroud 2700 cfm on my 392 hemi in my 40 ford and it does the job.

If you are going to an aftermarket aluminum radiator, you just need to pick up a jaguar clutch fan and universal fitment fan and you're in business. I never had luck with running an electric fan setup, and wouldn't put all my 'eggs' in one basket. My car runs 180* in traffic, and doesn't even have a fan shroud! 160-165* while driving. 160* thermostat. Mark VIII fans are proven performers, I had one on a mustang years ago from a local 'yard, but didn't last but a few weeks. Good luck, a summit racing pusher fan sits in front of my radiator but I haven't even had it on in 12 months.

I am not sure the exact thickness of the Lincoln fan, and I have had it on for about 10 mos w/ no problems...I am not running a shroud.

i6206.jpgnormally you want at least 3000 cfm for a warmed over 440 to cool at idle in any kind of heat.have you looked at mounting two fans?one upper rt corner and other at lower left corner.will put lower edge of fans lining up with water pump pulley and allow for more room.pic is of my side by side setup, but you get the idea.

I've tried the mechanical fan route with the Jag clutch and no dice it can't handle idleing in traffic for more then 10 - 15mins hence the elctric fan now.

Have you tried your wizard fan set up yet? Just concerned about the lower CFM then everyone recomends.

Part of the dual fan issue is finding ones that will cover most of the 22" rad.

Unfortunately my wizard set up won't get swapped in till sometime late winter and driven till spring. I discussed the engine specs (522 Stroker) with Tom at Wizard and he ensured me this 22" setup is good up to a 600HP build. According to him there are a lot of issues not getting good cooling from electric fans mostly because a lot of fan companies CFM ratings are skewed or not correct... This is the reason Wizard uses SPAL as they actually meet or exceed their claimed CFM rating.

I'm confident the setup will work fine but will definitely finish my review once everything is up and running and I'm putting the rubber to the ground

For what it's worth, the majority of you guys with cooling issues create your own problems with junk after market parts, electric fans you don't need and a host of other things including modifying things that were engineered to work. You take advice listening to a dozen others tell you how to do it and they all have different answers. Do it right or keep dumping money down the drain .This may be a little feather ruffling but if you think about it and use a little common sense ( not much left in todays world ) you may solve your problems !

I don't think you're ruffling feathers you're absolutely right.... But how does one find out what works/what doesn't or what's junk/what isn't if some people aren't willing to do the trial and error process and be a little innovative? I made my choice and I'm hoping once it's installed and up and running I can provide feedback... hoping it's positive of course and if it's negative that sucks for me but at least others can learn from it.... All the posts with cooling issues, electrical trouble, motor issues or whatever whether caused by a person's choice of part or just plain bad luck is how we learn on here.

The car has an excellent rad with a shroud on it as well. Stock water pump 180 deg t stat etc etc nothing wild or strange.

Just can't get a replacement HD fan clutch that will actully fit the car and the Jag one that everyone else uses doesn't pull enough air. No wheels re-invented here which is why I am only now looking at an electric fan.

The whole point of the forum is to get advice and do it right. I don;t think anyone sets out to do things half assed or wrong but as was stated how will you know what's right and what parts are good without asking/trying?
