Number 3

It has to be a joke...
I've never seen this type of childish behavior from anyone at all on this Forum.
He is so obstinate!

Is this a joke?

Thanks Adam...

"...Uh...1 ADAM 12, we've got a child with a poopy diaper calling everyone names and starting trouble on the Forum, ...what's your 20...over?"

IIRC, his grandson uses the number in other series and does pretty good.

Sorry guys, wasn't looking to start a war.

Anyway...
What were we talikng about here anyway?
Oh, yeah...
"bobtile's" post about Earnhardt's #3....
Has any NASCAR number oficially been retired?

Wikipedia states:
In NASCAR, only once has a number been officially retired; that is in the Whelen Modified Tour, where number 61 is retired for Richie Evans after his death in 1985. NASCAR unofficially retired the number 3 in honor of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. after his death on the track at the 2001 Daytona 500. Though the number is being brought back to The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2014 with Austin Dillon and RCR. Previously, Earnhardt's old team changed to the number 29, and the replacement driver (Kevin Harvick) has driven the 29 car ever since.

maybe he should run the #3 in white the first year in respect for his old buddy ..then run the black or whatever after that..and get Jr. to do one of his aw shucks moments to legitimize the whole thing ...if anything gets retired the 43 and 21 (for Pearson arguably the best of them all ..not to start another argument) should join the 3 ... then you would have the #48 next in line and that would ruin all my NASCAR memories ..let him run the 3 and you can say when he loses or puts it into the fence " he ain't no Earnhardt "

I reckon #43 should be retired. He was and still is the King of stock car racing. besides, he drove a Plymouth for crissakes!!

Yeah,
Now that I look at it .....
Seems like ALL other sports retire a "number"
That being said, with Richard Childress owning the number...it's a different story I suppose....

So,? How about that Kyle Busch?

I guess I'm a little late to the party… Oh well, my opinion anyway… NASCAR doesn't retire numbers. Richie Evans' #61 is the only NASCAR affiliated number retired and that's in the Whelen Modifieds. Childress had to make a decision because his lease on the #3 was about to expire. If he didn't use it, then it could go to someone else. All conflict of interest aside, I think Dillon has the potential to be one heck of a driver. I think he proved himself in Trucks and Nationwide. History in sports and entertainment is riddled with "royalty". That's just how it is. The King is essentially a prince to Lee Petty, and so was Adam and Kyle. It's a family affair in NASCAR, so it should be no surprise that kin to Childress should get the #3.

he's mellowed allot the couple years, not as much of the checkers or wreckers mentality now, that he owns a couple Truck & Nationwide level teams himself, he sees what it actually takes, he's also getting older too, maybe he finally grew up some... I like Kurt Busch much better, thought he got kind of a raw deal for speaking his mind, especially to the lame NASCAR media, but not liking the Toyota Driver {could be part of it} #18 Kyle Busch so much... he's a hell of a driver thou, he wins in every series, I just don't care for the guy... let alone JJ or JG either even Jr., but he's pretty mellow, has allot of expectations to live upto....

He'll be the best driver to never win a championship.

Now, I ask...isnt this a much better "thread"?
What the hell happened back there?

So, Childress has a "LEASE" on the number and it is soon to expire?
WOW, didnt know that!

I think the "Number 3" is a number that will always be remembered as Dale Earnhardt's.

yeah it's better/best known as Dale Sr.'s #, but allot of drivers have used it, even Jr. Johnson had #3 before Richard Childress ever even raced, many others too
