Pulled the interior out of the 70 RR I purchased late last year. Spent last winter fixing the steering and gave it a tune up then drove it around this past summer trying to get the "feel" of the car trying to get an idea of all I need to change and/or fix. My first Mopar so it is a totally different type of car then the GM cars I am used to when it come to the ride, body/interior and road noise, etc...
Floor looks pretty nice.....no rust at all. Not sure if any floor panels had been replaced in the past (no real experience on body work or welding) but will have a couple Mopar buddies take a look at it for me. Photos are right after I vacumed the floor but have not "cleaned" it with any cleaners yet. The doors and inside rear quarter panels look just as good. No rust any where. Lucked out.
So plans are to add power windows, lay in some sound matting in the floor, firewall and inside the doors and rear interior quarter panels, install a nice sound system, replace the "silly" rally clock with a Tic-Toc-Tac, replace the stock steering wheel with a smaller one (probably a Tuff wheel looking one), and see if I can get the stock gauges to work correctly hopefully by just replacing the voltage limiter behind the gauge cluster (rally).
Will post photos when it is done sometime before summer.........hopefully....LOL

PS: Other changes I hope to do are replacing the 4 wheel drums brakes with a Wilwood disc brake kits (front and rear) and get the A/C working (most of the under hood pieces are missing all cept the compressor).

I've owned 2 70 Satellite convertibles, which is virtually the same car. I think putting the sound matting in the floor is a waste of time and money, IMO. The rag top provides no sound insulation at all, so it is noisy as hell with the top up no matter what you do. And with the top down, who cares !!!!! LOL

The floors look great. The 70 RR/Sat convertible is my favorite car ever. You're a lucky guy !!!!

Wow . . . those floors look nothing like my floors did when I got my car . . . wait . . . I can't say how they looked because there was quite a bit of missing ! ! !

You've got a great starting point there . . . I'm working on a 1967 Belvedere Convertible myself.

Nice to see another convertible on this site being worked on . . . keep us posted on your progress.

Sorry to disagree but I've owned two 68-70 converts also and several hardtops and coupes and some floor insulation does make a difference. The loudest car I've ever driven with an actual exhaust (I drove my 68 RM21 RR for a winter with open headers) is my 70 which has no noise barrier except some cheap *** 1/8" carpet w/o any insulation .. it always sounded awesome to me though.

Did someone say open headers?? :headbang:

one of many configurations my car has had over the years. That's Mowpar giving it the big start after freshly installed TTI headers at the beginning of 2013.

That is a very clean looking Roadrunner. Looking forward to more progress shots as they come in :)

In a hardtop or coupe, I agree floor insulation would help. But I don't think there would be an appreciable reduction in the convertible.
Soundhd- if you have a decible meter, do a before and after for us !!!!

I bet it did sound great! I always loved the way my 73 sounds with open headers and it is just a SB, Been a long time since ive had a BB with headers closed or open lol...

soundhd, You have one good looking droptop 70 RR! A buddy of mine back in the day had one the same color and everytime i see one i always wonder if it could be his old ride (He's in Pa), I cant believe how good the floor is in that, you sir have a great ride there and good luck with your updates!! I am hoping to have the Wilwood disc brake's in my car, ive heard nothing but good about them..

Thank you! Winter time hear and that was a small but great refreshing sound in that GTX, Looks good to!!!

I guess all I can say is I also own a 72 Olds 442 convertible and it is a very "quiet" car compared to the Roadrunner even with the top down so I guess all I can do is try to lower the "noise" level coming from the body, driveline & suspension of the car and the road and see what happens in the spring when I get it out on the road.......I will post an update either in favor or against the use of sound/heat matting......I am sure there are other Mopar owners out there thinking about the same thing......

"Wow" that is a really clean floor. I'm doing the same to mine right now and don't see how it can't help with the noise to a degree. Check out Summits Bonded Logic insulation, it's foil backed, 1/2 thick, glues in with they're "sticky stuff adhesive" and you get allot more for your money than with Dynomat. Come to think of it I think they might have switched brands but they still offer one at about the same price, I think I paid $25.00 for a 4X6 sheet.

I could have been more clear. A lot of sound comes through the floorboard and if you add some insulation, even in a convert, it will reduce noise levels.

I'll be putting something on the floor of my convertible - some for the sound, but mainly to block the heat from off the road . . .

My thoughts are . . . any little bit helps ! ( smile )

Well, it surely can't hurt. And like conv67 said, it will also block heat.
