Guys were thinking about going, its our first time and plan to show the 63 in the Pro Street class.... Any suggestions on where to stay and any other information from anyone that has gone before...

Thanks

Chuck

Most properties on the strip are expensive. Room rate plus the resort fee's (usually resort fee's are added on top of the room fee's at about $15. to $25. per day) You can call around and see if they will take reservations at today's prices. Most of the off strip motels can be pretty reasonable. What price range are you looking to spend per night? The Hotel/Casino I work at will be limited on rooms as they are getting ready to shut down close to half the rooms for remodel. If you like I might be able to get you some lower rates where I work. (as a supervisor i do get some decent rates sometimes) Also if you need a place to park the 63 I could help accommodate a safe place to keep it.
PM me if interested in some help.

Will go there from Spring Fling, Van Nuys. The host Hotel Cannery is always full before the date is even announced. I usually stay at the Hampton on East Craig. Good digs and location. Planning to be in the fun-field display area. Always a good show with the racing. Very limited swap. Awesome Bands at the Cannery. Eye candy of every type. Everywhere. Hotchkis is fun to watch too.

If I were you I'd contact 68GTX440!

Has the show gone downhill in the last couple years? Someone/somewhere told me everything has dropped off from 4 or 5 years ago, attendance, show cars, racing, vendors, you name it.

Just wondered if that is true, since I haven't been there since 2007. :icon_question:

Define downhill. It snowed a couple times and got windy. The racing alone is enough reason for me to go. The Hotchkis track set up ramps it up. Killer Rock and roll at the Cannery. Been there every year since 06. Only upsetting time was when I saw Foose and the ebody he wrecked.

Well, snow and wind I don't need. Got plenty of that here, well below zero for the next 2 or 3 days.

Racing I enjoy, and I agree on the entertainment at the Cannery, enjoy that too. But are the numbers of show cars way down??, are the numbers of new and used parts vendors way down?? Car corral numbers??? People attending???

Swap meet never was very big, but it is a long way for me to haul parts back home anyway. I usually fly out there, so putting parts in my suitcase isn't too appealing anyway.

It varies year by year. I don' t have the stats. Modern muscle increases all the time, and that's ok. Weather can be iffy, but it is later this year in April instead of March. Look for my R/T.

Guys, thanks for all the information and thanks 68GTX440 appreciate the offer, I think we will stay off strip..have stayed in some Hampton's and think we will stay there.....were going to tow in and drive around in the 63 once we get there....

Our family always take RVs and stay right on the race track property. Many others from our Mopar club do the same. It's a lot of fun and very convenient. It really nice to have a place to rest, eat, hang out and tinker on the cars during the day.

Yes, attendance has been down. The weather hasn't been too ideal the past several years. Last year they actually had to postpone racing for a few hours because of a strong headwind. Several cars that usually only pull the wheels a foot or two off the ground were nearly standing on their bumpers. My brother's Savoy came down hard and mushroomed his oil pan. However, it's still a lot of fun and if attendance is down you don't have to wait as long to get on the track. There have been less attendance from vendors but the important ones still show up.

My suggestion is to enter the time only and street class too to get more seat time on the drag strip.

We love that show!
Who cares if anyone else goes?
In 2006 I won the street class...what a blast. It was the first time I had ever drag raced.
In 2008 I got 2nd in the autocross. Who knew Mopars could turn too?
Last year we were there as the official charity car with our 70 Road Runner.
This year we are doing it again only with the 69 Runner fitted with a 440+6pack. (This is the car that won the street class in 2006 and did pretty well in the autocross too.)
Fun! Fun! Fun!

Thanks for the nudge. I made reservations for Vegas. Looking forward to wandering around route 66 enroute from Los Angeles. Maybe another Oatman trip. OatmanDonkeyRoute66.jpg
