Quite a few of you may recognize this car, it was previously owned by at least two members of the board. I was looking for a clean 68-70 B body to restore and this one fit the bill nicely. I did a 70 RR a few years back that turned out great, but I started with alot of rust and I didn't want to go down that road again. This car is really rust free so I should save alot of time and money. (Is it possible to save money on a Mopar resto?) The car isn't numbers matching, no fender tag or build sheet. But vin and all body numbers say WS and match. So it's a real R/T but that being said it has no other pedagree. I'll stay some what true to the era but won't care about straying a bit to fit my taste as it's never going to be able to be a true original car. Seems Darin felt that way as well and he got me off to a nice start. All the things I would have wanted are there 440, Hemi 4spd, Dana and rally dash. The gotta have side scoops and ramcharger hood. I did a thread for the RR on another site and found it helpfull and motivating. So I'll welcome you comments and input, and probably beg for some knowledge at some points. I'll post pics as I progress and time permits.

Thanks, Rob

Excellent and Welcome Rob. It's great to see another resto project and thread getting started with so many finishing !

I have been collectiing some parts and deciding what direction to go. I went compete teardown on the RR. But was thinking somewhat shy of that with this. Strip and paint/coat everything on the undercarriage, reinstall brakes, tank, lines and make it so it moves under it's own power. Then strip it down for paint. I would remove as much ol paint as possible, then ship it to the guy who did the paint and body on the RR. So for now I'm starting in that direction. Here are some before and after pics of my first few hours of undercoating removal.

Welcome to the site Rob and congrats on scoring such an awesome project! '69 is my favorite year for 'nets and 'bees so I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the build. What are your other plans as far as color, suspension, wheels/tires, interior, etc?

Welcome to the site. That is going to be my next project (if I ever finish my Charger). What color combo are you going with?

Nothing to crazy on suspension, it's pretty much set. Upgraded torsion bars, struts and KYB's. Interior will be stock black with the R/T woodgrain on the doors, maybe switch up the console. Have a nice set of chome magnum 500's but I went with a set of Mirada wheels on my RR and really liked them. Nothing to crazy I like to drive them. Color is probably the biggest decision I will have to make. Depending on my choice things could snowball. The car was originally tan w/strip delete. It has currently been jambed and the engine bay is painted. I will go with black vinyl top. B5 would not be my first choice but I do like it with the black. If I change it the motor K frame and the whole deal come back apart. At that point I'll be hard pressed to not put it on the rotissorie like I did the RR. So for now I'll plug allong getting things in order to head to the bodyshop. And I'll make that decision closer to that time. I have really been thinking about a red car. Here is a current engine bay pic.

That is a really nice Bee, I too favor the 69's in all B Body models and really like the Bee's "mean looking cars". Congrats

I am beginning restoration on a 66 Coronet 440 2dr HT and it has undercoating applied to the bottom side. How did you go about removing the undercoating?

Tan with stripe delete sounds interesting, never seen one in the flesh. Anyone have a pic?

It will take some time but I use a little handheld propane torch, like you would use to repair a plumbing pipe. Keep it moving and it will soften up nice, then use a 1 or 1 1/2" putty knife. You can clean the last bit of residue with some laquer thinner and a scotchbrite pad.

Here is a pic of the original color. I haven't looked at the codes for 69 but it looks like the Y4 on my 70. To bad I have no real documentation.

That may be the cleanest rear window channel of all time. Nice 69Coronetr/t :)

It's by far the cleanest body I've ever come across. The car has had tons of money dumped in it. I got it with no documentation and the thing was not even a rolling shell when I got it. So I decided to do it my way.
Rob got a great piece to start with, and I can't wait to see it done. I am kinda glad he is quite a ways away, though. Be hard to see it on a regular basis.
It's looking good put together. I hated how it looked when it left my possession.

As delivered in around '02. C-body 8.75 with no center chunk. I don't think there were shocks on it. Power steering box and manual steering column so it didn't steer. The front suspension had been out to paint the engine bay a funky dark blue color and there was not a castle but to be found. Nails slid through the holes and bent over kept the front suspension together.
Sorry to hijack!

Wow Darin,

I didn't realize you had owned the car so long. Thanks for the link to the old pics. It was neat to see the car progress over the years.

Yeah, I had it for a while. We're it not for a divorce and move and trying to assemble it in a tiny apartment garage, I wouldn't have traded it off. I learned a lot and spent a lot. I wish my Bee was that solid. But I always wanted a Bee a little more. I'll be looking very slowly for another R/T.

I let a an '69 Coronet R/T slip thru my fingers in high school. Been kincking my own but for 30 years over that one.
Yours looks like a great car.
