My '68 Charger restoration

Moving forward...

The cowl patch is in and partially finish welded. I have some more welding to do but I need to add a small filler strip for the gap. The rest of it has blended nicely. The patch for the base of the A-pillar has been fitted, but I don't want to put it on until I figure out what to do for seam sealer. I need to buy the drip rails, but until then I'll patch the hole on the hinge post that will be covered by the forward most section of the new rail. I did ditch the rings since the aftermarket A/C's do not pull from there, so those will be patched and smoothed. The lower hinge post and side panel patch are getting close. I still have a little gap and some grinding to do on the side panel repair before I put on the new piece of hinge post. The d/s A-pillar and hinge post will be next up once this area is done.

The upper core support to inner fender joints have the outside patches installed with a little finish grinding to do before the inner patches get installed.

Since I have a good one in hand, I will be replacing the right frame rail to just behind the shock tower. I want to get ALL the cancer out of there. Aside from the small repairs on the inside of the d/s inner fender from battery damage, that will complete the front end. I'm debating doing the XV lower core support and inner fender/shick tower stiffening mods.

On Saturday I'm taking a drive a few hours each way to pick up a set of front fenders and a hood from a member on another certain charger board.

Back from the shadows of unemployment... I landed a great engineering job in July and have slowly been digging out of the hole that was left from almost a year of unemployment without any unemployment benefits.

To start things off again, I picked up an entire roof from the A-pillars to the roof/quarter seam. This will solve 95% of the problems I was facing getting the vinyl top damage repaired. I an going to sand and prime the inside before it gets mounted. Pics will come as soon as I get it unloaded from the truck. My garage is half torn apart since I had to clear off a portion of it to install built in shelves. Let's get moving!

Glad you are getting back on your feet. Good deal on the roof.

Glad to hear you are back in the game (both employment and car) :headbang:

Thank you for making my night! I was worried about mine being bad! Wow that is an awesome project to tak on. I will follow till the end!

Here is my roof. It is complete to the end of the skin at the back and 2/3 of the A-pillars. This thing will save me a TON of effort.

That will save you a bunch of time as you can work on it before you need to install it.

Funny you should ask...

Fast and Furious 7 bought it from me for a MORE than fair price. I took the cash and picked up a '71 Challenger that had been parked for 25 years. Original blue plates, same owner on the registraion slips from '72 - last tags in '85. I had it running within a day and I'm one bad freeze plug from driving the thing around town. pretty solid, needs rear floor pans and a rear deck filler panel ,both of which I have already purchased and will install shortly. Needs a front drivers fender and a drivers quarter skin. Some minor patches here and there, but I'm quite happy with it. It is perpetually for sale as I continue searching for another '68 that isn't priced to the moon.

The day I bought it:

Nice Challenger! Please elaborate on the Fast and Furious buying the car. I imagine it will probably become a stunt car of some sort. Did they say what they were going to use it for?

Yes, it will be a stunt car. They are buiding a number of tube-chassied 4x4's out of them for some sort of "return to the desert" linked back to F&F 4. I saw pics on the picture-car guy's phone of what they would be doing. Looked pretty neat, really.

I love the grills in the 71 Challengers, My wife would love to get one of them someday, lol, wouldn't hurt my feelings at all we both love them! Enjoy...

4x4 for the desert? Off roading 68 charger? I'm torn between, loving to see it... but destroying a 68 ... No bueno!

67Charger,

Do you know of anyone in Palmdale, Tehachapi with a 68 Charger?

I know there have been a few come and gone on the local craigslist, but owning a decent one or even project? Not at the moment.

'Nice" 71 Challengers are one of my favorites, love the body lines and grill.
