A 12 rescue step 1

Great find. These old Mopars are like stray dogs. You just want to save them all. But not everyone would tackle that, good for you.

...this whole thread motivates me to be a better Mopar owner. These cars are America, and the America I remember and want to see every day......

Metal work

OK.......the chopping is close to being finished........ :chain saw: nice job butcher!!!!

Now let's see if we can do some magic........... :DMAGE:

The rail and trunk pan looking good!!!!! photo (2).jpg

Great story and great car!

Love the A12's, and love Bahama Yellow, too!

Good luck on the build and thanks for sharing!

I see you've got an AMD rear X-member there. Did they change the stamping to have the indentations needed on the top edge, or have you figured out a way to work with it?

I had to salvage one off my parts car, couldn't get the AMD part to match up to the existing trunk floor.

My sheet metal guy has been building these cars @13 years. His favorite is the 69 Roadrunner. He said he knows what you are describing in AMD not matching up but he didn't have any problem with this car. He is very good at what he is doing for me. This project is extensive, as you can see what I started with, but we are on a mission here. I'll be posting more pictures as it comes along. Everyone that has seen the pictures so far are saying it's a big job, expensive or some think it was too far gone. I'm a true blue guy and committed to completing my dream car. My wife keeps depositing money into our account so I gotta keep going till she stops. We may have to live in this car when it's finished, but we'll both be grinning from ear to ear!!!! This car has always been local, within 15 or 20 minutes from me. Most people have seen it tearing up the roads and the local drag strips around here!!! HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!! I can't wait to be the one laying fresh posi's all around!!!! Thanks

Thanks for the video there snakeyes, Very nice car there! 410 sure grip i think the guy said, ohh love to have that... Not a bad looking 67 Chevelle in front from what little bit you can see, any Chevelle next to that 69 would look sad though!! lol

Good to know I wasn't nuts. I beat the heck out of mine trying to get it to match up but surrendered and sold it to a friend with a Superbee. The trunk on those is a little different so I guess maybe AMD copied a Dodge part and assumed it'd be the same. That guy owns a junkyard and has been around Mopars his whole life and didn't believe me until I put the AMD part next to the factory part I peeled off my parts car and proved it.

Good that you found a good metal guy, they're hard to find these days.

FWIW my car is also an A12 but it's an old race car that was hacked on pretty good back in about '76 by Akron Arlen. Picture below is a decal on the window when I got it. I asked him about it at the Nats one year and he said he cut up a bunch of them back in the day and never thought twice of it. Never let a guy modify your car who gets his cars for free. :) I'm no closer to having it road or track worthy again than I was years ago though.

Good to see you saving that old war horse. It's threads like this that brings me back here, other sites don't get into the actual work like this place does. :headbang:

Your car is a great story!!!!! Arlen is the man!!!! Are you going to restore your A12? Is it for sale? I have a friend who purchased a 68 Roadrunner that was drag raced back in the day sponsored by the "Hot Rod Barn". This car is sitting in storage. The man owning it now has no clue as to what it used to be. It's painted black over the factory B5 (I think was the original color). Those old race cars are cool. I'd like to restore one some day. If you have any pics of your car post them I'd like to see it?

arlen had many cars up here in ohio there still where quite a few around here I new of a69 ,a cuda and duster and a few mid 60`s cars ,one is less than a mile from me

Great build you got going can not wait to some more pics. would like to know who does your blasting as i live in SC also.

Restore is too fancy a word for what I'm doing with it. I would sell it but you wouldn't want to pay what I need to get for it. Car was gutted and cut pretty much everywhere by Arlen's shop. She's an old tired warhorse with nothing original left. Sorry for the hijack.

wow that's some project. do you have any "as found" pics?

I sure do on the other thread, A 12 RESCUE.

Whenever I brought home a project car my dad would say " Son you don't need a garage to restore this you need a priest!" lol
