Where do people come up with these prices?

Hi there everybody, I see your all discussing my car for sale. To be honest, I don't want anything near the buy it now price, I just put that there to generate interests and views on the car. I see some folks have some questions on the car.
I got a call a couple days ago that someone might have the original motor to the car, so that might help the new owner. The broadcast sheet in the rear seat in the picture is not original as the seat is from another car. If you look at the 120+ pics I posted , there is a zip-lock bag with a 2 in long piece of broadcast sheet in it (or the worlds oldest corn flake) lol. There are a lot of parts that come with it, and the motor is on a plank in the car, so it won't damage anything. Yes, there are TWO very interesting things about the car that the that is not mentioned in the ad and only a well versed mopar person will catch it. I currently have 3 offers on the car, so it will sell before the auction ends. Since I've owned, traded, parted and demo derbied close to 300 mopars, I'm pretty sure the value is close to what someone will pay for it. Here is the original posting to how I found the car.

That's a great story and it must have been amazing to see all those cars in person. At the rate your auction is going, you might get pretty close to your BIN price.

You can think those stupid morons at car auction who have more money than brains that drove the prices to the moon so a normal person can't touch what used to be a $2300 car new.
 
Hi there again, I did end the auction early. I got a very nice offer and decided to take it.
 
Congrats on the sale man, guess "it's worth whatever someone will pay for it" applies here. It was interesting reading how you came across the car and seeing all the other classics it was stored with too, thanks for sharing that!

Let me start by saying I am by no means wealthy, and unlike our current administration, do not resent those who are, particularly if they worked hard to earn their wealth. I'm a career military guy and consider myself fortunate that I am able to afford my decent shape little Road Runner. We've all seen the market impacted by Barrett-Jackson, Mecum, etc with knuckleheads thinking their decent car is equivalent to a 100 pt resto of a 1 of 1 car. But, I think the latest wave is all these car restoration shows, i.e. Graveyard Carz, and folks with money buying up project cars (and sometimes basket cases) for top dollar, thinking they can do the resto themselves or end up paying big $$ for someone else to do it. Just my two cents...
 
The guy just called me to pickup the car and heading over to meet him. He told me he already had a hemi 4spd and correct 6pak for the car so he's already ahead. As for paying too much or selling to too high, just sounds like some people don't know the value on cars before posting. I watch auctions sure, but I have been also following car trends for over 20 years and price was spot on, this why it sold in a few weeks of posting. If some of you 'experts' had checked the photo archives, then you would have seen two clues why this charger was more valuable then similar optioned 6-pak cars.

IIRC you came here asking for help & advise, in another post... Wasn't this car also listed a couple of times too ?? Hell, I'm no expert, I don't ever claim to be, maybe you are, I know with these cars, I learn something new everyday, I'm amazed sometimes even... I do know what it cost to restore/build or fix these cars, so do many others that have posted on this thread... I'm not a flipper just a car guy & since I've done many of them now, probably 40 MoPars, since 1974, 26 racecars from the ground up, {12} 68-70 Charger's in various optioned cars, R/T's, SE's, Hemi's, Six Pack's etc.... I know what price point you need to get a car for & where you need appr. to be price wise, to purchase them too, to make it financially feasible {I know not everyone buys a car for resale or possible value, emotion plays a big part too} & unless you buy the car, for a car you will want to keep or do a hi-end 100pt all real #'s matching {not just era correct}, OEM type correct restoration, or a desirable Resto-Rod/Pro-Touring car {trend, but most people won't pay for a rare car to do them thou}, most people won't buy a 440 Six Pack car, to build them either & will never get the value, money spent, out of overpriced project cars usually, but some people will, usually the high end auction perfect #'s cars, like some Barrett-Jackson cars, but it's by far not the norm... And unless someone is doing all the work themselves, owns all the tools, has all the expertise, that it takes to know what's, what & where it goes, or how much it's actually worth, what all pieces are actually real or re-pop or missing, especially with "basket cases", they tend to be big a$$ money pits 99% of the time... Especially MoPars, because they are far pricier in parts & much fewer of them were ever built, people that own many of them thing rust is worth it's weight in gold... But the ol' adage says "there's an a$$ for every seat" & it's proven every day, people will spend good money on stuff, albeit good or bad, if they want it bad enough... That's how auction survive... Congrats on the Charger sale !!........... so what did it sell for ?? or are you dodging or don't/won't answer the question ?? it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it !!
 
Thanks. The guy who bought it has about a couple dozen muscle cars already and does his own work except drivetrain rebuilding. I picked it up to flip as it was offered to me. I didn't make alot on it, but its going to someone who wants a very diffrent car. As for how much he paid, I can't say. I can say it was an amount less than the buy-it-now price on eBay and enough to counter any offers I had on the car.
 
If the guy is going to rebuild it for his own collection, that's great. Get another Mopar back on the road. However, I agree with what Budnicks is saying. What really pisses me off is the Mopar HOARDERS out there. And let me clarify with an example. There is a guy that I know of who has at least half a dozen Mopars (B&E bodies) that are all in decent shape, most needing some level of restoration. They are sitting in a crappy "garage" that is completely open on one side to the Florida weather (i.e. humidity and rain). Rather than restore these cars or sell them at a reasonable price (his prices are restored prices for project cars) he's content to let them sit in this garage and continue to deteriorate. Pretty sure he just picked up a couple pretty rare decent looking project cars that were on CL here. They will sit and rot. Sorry...had to vent!
