Corvette guy comes over to the dark side...

1st rule is to not paint the engine compartment black....unless of course the body is also black :D Sorry, couldn't resist and welcome to the site!

LMAO! did someone say black engine compartment?!?!?

Welcome aboard ShortStack! Get some pics up of some of the other projects you've done Mopar or not!

BIG LOL on that one. The Roadrunner was originally sassy grass (or is it lime light) (or is it sublime lime?) - havent decoded the tag yet. Anyway, the car then was painted orange, and now yellow. Leaving the engine compartment a complete disaster. Looks like a rainbow exploded under the hood. My first thought was to do a GM blackout - would have been SOOOOOO much easier. But I wanted to do it right, even though this car probably doesnt deserve it. My wiring harness were complete crap, and the engine was already out, so I decided to do it right and am getting ready to send the car out to soda blast and we will paint the engine compartment, rad core support etc all yellow to match the current color of the car.

So, long story, but you made me laugh with the "dont paint the engine compartment black" comment!

thanks for the welcome

The "engine compartment black" comment was a friendly stab at me for this post where I essentially am doing what you considered as a temporary clean up! It's a great site with tonnes of great info and advice

http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?65471-Engine-Bay-Black-or-Orange

also you mentioned the wiring harnesses are all crap. Not sure where you go for your Vettes but the majority here find the M&H harnesses through Year One are a great direct swap in and very high quality. I'm sure you deal with Year One also but if you're looking to order these wait for a 30% discount code and if you don't get them through email list post a thread here and someone will post one for you.

Well, you probably know that “restoring” a MOPAR separates the men from the boys.
(“Hot Roding a Chevy. So easy a cave man can do it”)
In additon to not painting the engine compartment black, do not splatter paint the trunk. ;-)

Hydragoon - My engine compartment looks almost as bad as yours.

That gorgeous sign in the background almost spit out its light bulbs and ran out the door when ol yeller rolled into the shop!

I beg to differ!!!

Welcome to the site. I have a 70 Road Runner 383 just starting a complete restoration and a 1960 Vette nearing completion. The guys at the site haven't run me out yet, so just keep the POSI comments to a minimum and you'll do fine!

I have quite a few reference pictures of my Road Runner, so I'll be glad to help with your restoration with any information I can. One comment I will make: You stated how the wiring harness is junk. Replacing the harness is, in my opinion, some of the best money you can spend. The old harnesses are typically hacked up, but beyond that, are prone to cracking and shorting. While the risk of a fire due to this is probably low, the headaches to find and fix this stuff can be a PITA. As stated earlier, the Year One harnesses are the best way to go - perfect fit and function.

Good luck with your project!

Hawk - I should have said "Fast" corvettes dont have a trunk!! (see I can make corvette jokes too) Tuxedo black - Tell me its got roman red interior!! Most gorgeous color combo on a vette - any year. Looks like you are getting close. What size engine?

Heres a 61 in my shop right now. Honduras maroon with fawn interior. Dual 4bbl 270 hp 4sp

Yes, it has a Roman Red interior and Sateen Silver coves. I agree that it is an awesome color combo. A buddy of mine has a black 65 Mustang with a red interior and it just POPS!

My Vette is a two top 270 HP Dual Quad 283 with a 4 speed and a 3.70 Posi (shhhh!) rear. Correct engine and driveline, but I have stroked it with a 327 crank, so it displaces about 317 cubes if I remember correctly.

Car has been a true frame off nut and bolt restoration. Now need to drop in the engine, finish windshield and interior. Windshield is a PITA, but looking to do that very soon...

OK, I better stop talking Vette stuff or I will get flamed!!!

I expect a mod to come along any minute now and kick me to the curb for posting a Corvette, a Chevrolet sign and a GM PARTS sign all on my first day!

Thanks to all for the warm welcome

Naw! were a tolerant bunch. Most of us actually like other marks too. I happen to like anything that goes fast with 4 wheels.

I have no problem with this thread what so ever.....but I don't own the board either lol

Some of these guys have stole my thunder! No all black engine compartments, no Posi rears and I'll add that you must black out the area behind the grille unless the car is black or a very dark color.

I also noticed you have a sense of humor. This is a requirement here as far as I'm concerned. And as long as you are not a Richard Cranium (because we already have one and this site aint big enough for two) you will do just fine. So a big welcome from Nor Cal. And by the way, I like Vettes too and wouldn't mind seeing a pic or three of yours.

I am stunned and shocked no one else is going to say this............

for gods sake do not put a chevy 350 in that mopar! or we will hunt you down!

Welcome to the site by the way great project. A 70 RR is an awesome car! easier than you think to do we are here to help. Oh and another thing If I see you trying to cut out the torsion bars with a blow torch well that will be the same result as above. One of my bucket list cars = 56' vette 427 4 spd no top... nuff said now get to work chebby guy!

welcome Shorty! i think you'll fit right in!

most of us here love other makes and models; vettes included. we wont flame you for that! now the GM signs in the background, that's a different story! lol

btw, you do know that it is a Chevrolet Corvette, right? ive met vette guys who get a bit ruffled when you say that. they say, "it's a vette, damn it!!" and i thought MoPar guys were ****! lmao

I just spit out my jack and coke all over the keyboard and monitor, thanks JB! lol

I think we're a little more tolerant here than some other sites .. welcome and nice 70 you have there. I like all cars especially midsize muscle cars, cobras, and early vettes but my spending money is all marked for Mopars .. love em all.

It's good that ShortStack can see in his welcome thread the type of group we are and that we take fun in needling each other with no harm intended! I'll be the butt of the "black engine bay controversy" for a long time to come but I love that we can joke around and it's motivation for me to address the engine bay properly (body colour) when I have the next opportunity!

ShortStack (Or SS as I'm sure you will be abbreviated shortly) nice looking vette project and even nicer looking shop! Glad you at least have one proper sign in there to balance out the others ;) Remember most of us on here are MOPAR guys first and Car guys second so we do appreciate all sorts and sizes and always love seeing the results of hard work. Spend some time in the members restoration section and go through some of the longer build threads.... you'll appreciate some of the quality work done here and get ideas for your own resto! Glad you could make it and I think we all secretly know once you're done with your buddy's RR you're going to want a Mopar for yourself :)

Welcome, you must not be all bad if your fixing up that Mopar. All kidding aside I love all muscle cars all brands had them all.
BTW my cousin has a 67 roadster red on red 427 4bbl 4 speed we have fun in and hit cruise nights together, one of my favorite Vettes

But you got to agree two cans of black spray paint would look a heck of a lot better than this skittles explosion in the engine bay! (I really wish he had the money to turn this roadrunner back to green - now that would be cool!)

Thanks to everybody for the warm welcome. Yes, Im a jokester, so I appreciate all the good natured ribbing you guys gave me. Its all good my brothers. Again, doing this for a friend makes the pain of working on a mopar a little bit easier.

NO, I wont drop a 350 in it!!! I do at least have a little bit of respect for this old war horse.

NOW, if I just could figure out how to get rid of the mopar whine of the starter and make it sound like God intended it, I just might be a mopar convert!!
