Hey guys ive not really used ebay before. I was just wondering if i need a paypal account for it. I dont really trust it, i ve had friends who have been hacked. Thinking i could recieve payment by a moneyorder or certified cheque. Thanks

Since ebay bought paypal, that is the only method of payment accepted. But some sellers list a phone number to pay by credit card.

Im OK with pay pal, I use it all the time, you can even buy and sell from people off other sell sites with it.

I have made hundreds of purchases on ebay with paypal, some minimum selling. I have never had a problem with paypal scams. You have to link it to a bank account, so obviously, don't link it to a main account with tens of thousands of dollars in it that could be vulnerable. Trust but protect yourself.

I have been buying and selling regularly for a few years on Ebay and use PayPal as the only way of sending and receiving payments and haven't had a single issue. You are more likely to be scammed using checks and money orders.

Ditto NJRR, I have purchased so much stuff off ebay,I could not tell you how many. I have never been hacked or got stuff that was incorrect. Maybe I am lucky, but I have had extremely good luck and will continue to shop there!

Thanks for that! I didn't realize that happened, i used to get mad at a few on Ebay because i wanted to use Pay Pal and seems they always wanted a credit card that i don't use and would have to get a debit card, last week i tried to make a purchase and they wanted Pay Pal lol.. Had my wife laughing about it to..
I like Pay pal and have never had a problem with it myself... I don't buy a terribly lot off them (Ebay) but it works ok for me.

Paypal is about as secure as you can get these days. The problems you hear about are external not internal, and people who get scammed do so by responding to bogus emails they receive. If you ever get an email appearing to be from Paypal, and that asks you to log into Paypal to verify something or fix something, it's a fake. If the email has a link in it, right click on the link and open it's properties and you'll see the link isn't going to paypal but to someplace in Russia, China, etc.

nope you can use money orders that is all I have used on ebay don't use paypal some swear by it and some have nothing but problems ,don't use postal money orders unless out of country , bank money orders are the better ,and from what I was told I believe soon you wont be able to get postal ones .

I use Paypal and their Bill Me Later line of credit for eBay purchases and to pay the property management company for repairs on my rentals. It's a great service. Good interest rates with 6 months no interest on everything and it has proven to be more secure than my credit cards.

BTW, remember ebay is for more than buying or selling parts. I just needed another $400 to finish paying off the work being done on my car. I found an Auto Meter speedo and tach on craigslist for $50 for both, and an old salesmen sample kit of police and fire badges for $60. I put them up on ebay and they sold for $230 and $290, so I got my $400, paid off the $110 I paid for the gauges and badges, and was $10 to the good.

Car projects are always better when you're spending someone else's money. :)

Same here. When it comes to problems it is usually because the user doesn't follow the rules in its use and then get bit because of it. I have had an account now for 13 years and I have the ability to scan into my iPhone app for Pay Pal and accept Credit/Debit Cards. I just adjust the price for the user fees that Pay Pal has. Smooth as silk. Really the only way to make only purchases these days. Snakeyes...If I am not mistaken, unless one contacts the seller for other payment options, Pay Pal must be used. Just sayin is all....

Sign up to paypal and make all payments to your credit card for purchases and all selling to a bank account only for selling on ebay or what ever. Its a win win sittuation

Alot of regular retailers now let you purchase through paypal. I've never had a problem and paying through paypal is a lot faster.
