Just wondering how do i identify which type of shifter mechanism and shifter rods i have.also i have a press in shifter, can i drill a hole through the shifter and mechanism to keep it from pulling out. The cars is a 68 b- body with a 23-spline transmission and a console. Thanks

pic?

it's either gonna be an Inland or a Hurst

A press in shifter should be a Hurst. Inlands were all bolt on I believe.

I suppose you could put a bolt, but you really don't have the proper box. You would need a Hurst Competition Plus with matching handle. Brewar's has all the isolator stuff new.

And, at least for a '68 B-body (I have a Charger) the shifter rods are the same whether an Inland or a Hurst mechanism.

later style 73 and up, were bolt in as well for hurst

I'm wondering the same: can you convert a press in shifter into a bolt in shifter by just drilling the handle and the shifter?

Yes you can drill the mechanism and handle to rig it but then the shifter and handle both will no longer have original value to them if that matters to you in the future. As mentioned Brewers and others sell the pieces to rebuild your handle insert and also sell the pieces to convert your push in mechanism to a bolt in one as well as new bolt in handles which is the best way to go.

The Brewer's site has good reference info on it, you should check it out.

No id numbers on any of theshifter arm Levers. Will this work in a 68 b body?

yes...and you might also need the triangle piece to hold it to the trans if I remember...my Inlands do

By any chance do you know if the shifter mechanism would work for a 70 e body? Are they all the same. Love the pistol grip shifter but dont wanna spend the money on parts i dont need. Thank you

main mechanism is the same, the rods & levers are different for "E" body

I don't recommend drilling the iso-clamp handle setup. If you notice the iso-clamp is a welded box with the hard rubber to take up the space between the body and the handle. If you were to drill two holes and put bolts you would never get enough clamping force against the handle to lock it tight, and chasing a loosening shifter every six months would get annoying really quick. What works is the comp plus shifters because if you notice the handle and mating handle mount have serrations that line up. It's these serrations what keeps things in place. If you want a bolt on handle you need to get a comp plus shifter box and just use the later handle. And forget about cutting your original handle and welding on the two hole serrated mount because it will likely fail at the weld if you have a habit of running through the gears with no mercy. A Hurst 4 spd shifter adapter will also be required to get the box to the tailshaft.

That is Not a B/body Pistol grip shifter. Maybe E/body ?

That looks like a 70 E-Body mechanism with 70 B-Body linkage rods from what i can see by the pics provided
