Has anyone figured out how to silence the ring-a- ding bell sound on the automatic shifter?

Put down the peace pipe before you drive?
That's how I got most of the strange noises in my head to go away

But really... our cars don't have a shifter bell that I've ever known of....

or is your shifter button loose and rattles?

what kind of car & what shifter are we talking about here?

a little more info would help.....kinda like asking why your tire goes flat

I used to hear a bell ring every time my tranny shifted too ... turned out it was from my head slamming against the head rest.

All I ever heard was Screaming from the person in the other seat ! OH sorry I run a 4 Speed ! My Bad !:eusa_whistle:

Maybe a lot of angels are getting their wings.

Glad to see you guys are having fun with this. I didn't know how else to describe this noise but I'll give it another shot.

The button that you depress to change gears on the automatic shifter is rattling against it's housing making a ringing bell sound. The housing is the chrome ''grip'' of the shifter knob. I've taken it apart, sprayed the spring and inside the grip with rubber dip, still ringing, driving me crazy. When I'm driving I keep my thumb on the shifter to stop the noise. There has to be a better way.

The car is a '66 Charger with a torqueflight.

yer missing the spring under the push-button knob thingy

Sorry, Scott. I hope you don't mind our goofs and that maybe A383Wing has the answer for you.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Most of the time if you take the top of the shifter apart and stretch the spring a little it will tension that button enough to stop the movement causing the ringing bell sound.

Oh and allow me to apologize for the FBBO dog pile. One of the reasons my technical advice is sparse here. Everybody is an expert but doesn't know how to help you. We mean well.
