Hey guys, I'm thinkin about what to do with my all original numbers matching 1966 Dodge Coronet 440 with a slant 6. Picked it up for 5500 and I'm the 3rd owner. It's got a few little dings, needs some trim, grill dented, but rest of is awesome with no rust and ok interior and been repainted blue but was originally white. WWMD

A) Fix up and keep all original?

B) Gut it and go performance route using new equipment engine/trans/suspension etc?

C) Maybe make an R/T clone?

D) other (describe)

I'm not sure of the cost and return for any of these and need your input. I'd hate to take the car from original to find out there aren't many left in this config.

Thanks for input.

A) Fix up and keep all original? As much as practical and possible

B) Gut it and go performance route using new equipment engine/trans/suspension etc?nah

C) Maybe make an R/T clone?In '66? Nope.

D) other (describe)Make it drivable and safe. Enjoy it.

I'm not sure of the cost and return for any of these$0.00. If you worry about return, you'll be disappointed and need your input. I'd hate to take the car from original to find out there aren't many left in this config.I agree and that's why you should keep it stock.

Thanks for input.

Sublime green with a flat black hood and a stroked big block gets like my vote! Slap some dragstars on it and have a blast. I dig those cars!

It's already got pretty paint on it.

Drive as is, or if you must have more power (as do a lot of us), drop in a 318/360 for cheap or a big block for a bit more.

BTW sweet car, and more pics and backstory please.

I'd say keep it the way it is. Fix the little things that need fixing. If you need more power look into a new intake manifold with a few more barrels and a dual exhaust. Other than that, drive the hell out of it.

There are LOTS of "period correct" factory colors to consider that have a similar effect as 69-72 HIP colors such as turbine bronze, corporate/petty blue, medium turquoise, and the ever popular resale red.

IMO those colors look MUCH better on 66-67 cars.

Also IMO, that car would look better with Cragars, Keystones, Torque-Thrusts, or even factory/Magnum 500 chrome wheels.

Dump the Cheech and Chong rims fix up the little problems leave it a six-cylinder it'll be way more affordable to drive and have fun with it

Imo, you paid top dollar for a /6 car. To me, a /6 numbers matching car doesn't mean anything. My 66 Belvedere came with a /6, auto and ac and I used it for a daily driver for nearly 10 years and even drag raced it at the track. It's now all over my shop and is getting ready for a built low deck and 4 speed. Btw, my fuel mileage was around 15 average. Probably could have got more but with my driving style, that's high plus a car that only ran 19 seconds at the track is not my cup of tea but I did enjoy kicking *** with it. After a few times, I got my RT's and ET's down to a science and did some kicking *** with it. Even tho that was fun, going that slow wasn't.

I would drive the wheels off it. Change what you don't like while it's still drivable. I good power tune with a good exhaust will wake up that slant.

Lol on the sublime green. I do however have a 73 duster that color. It suits it. Thanks for all the input. As you can see from the pics it's a good 20ft car. And NADA has it priced around 6500 so 5500 for the fun wasn't so bad. And the lady who first bought it undercoated it so saved from rust so I took the good with the bad.

If you want bucket seats for it I have a set for sale with tracks. Will need full upholstery, and you can either buy the molded foam for $115.00 ea. or build it up yourself. I'm in Nor Cal so not bad to ship. Each seat about 40 lbs. Add a console and floor shift and get mega bonus cool factor points on the interior.

I agree that's all the money for a six car and if it's not rusted out you did OK. My vote will be to keep the six for a while or maybe forever. To me it's kind of refreshing to see a B body that hasn't been converted to a 440 or hemi clone. If you keep the Six contact Doug Dutra for hop up mods. Split exhaust manifolds, dual carb intakes, etc.. But if you have to have the power a 440 swap is pretty easy to do on that car.

Part of me says keep the \6 and drive it. Do what Meep said about Doug Dutra, be a cool cruiser.
The other half says, 511ci and some drag radials. Plane Jane sleeper look.

I think we need a new icon at the bottom of each post...'BOO!!' Sublime...yuck.

One thing that hasn't been noted or asked... what's your budget for changing things, and what kind of timeline are we talking? This may eliminate some options...

If it were mine, I'd consider just driving it...maybe look into a T5 swap if it's a 3 speed, header and 4 bbl, diff wheels and be done. Nothing that takes it outta commission for too long, and nothing overly $$ or difficult. The little fixes here and there can be done while driving and enjoying it.

I say Mauve Poly, with a white interior...beautiful color combo. Nice big block, auto or manual, leave all the trim on, leave the bench seat (your girl can sit right next to you!) upgrade suspension and disc brakes....and a set of Torque Thrusts would set it off nicely!

Go big or go home!500 on the grill is cubes. 5.0,s tremble.Fast and loud baby!

I nice set of new wheels and tires would do wonders for that car.
