I'm looking at a 75 Dodge Dart on craigslist for $1500. The owner says it is a retired bracket race car, not sure what that is, but he did say it has not been "hacked" up. He said he drove the car daily for 20 years. It has a 6 cyl in it now. If I buy it, what would be my options for installing a V-8? Is there a V-8 that would bolt right in, or would it require major changes? I have not talked to him so I don't know much about the car, just want to be educated before I make the purchase. I currently own a 66 Coronet 440 2dr Ht, so I have caught the Mopar fever!!

Slant to V8 is as simple as a k-frame swap. Check on FABO to see if someone in your area has one available.

Or you can go Schumaker's engine mount swap, but, in my opinion, it would be a better in the long run route to go with a V8 k-frame.

X2... I must add tho... a's are a different breed in the mopar family... But they are cheaper to build and parts are plentiful... I rock one... :headbang:

Lets not forget they tranny the slant six tranny will not bolt to a v8 he would at least need a adapter for a auto or bell housing for a manual

With a K frame swap the v8 and trans swap is pretty simple. Big blocks get a bit more involved. Power brakes and PS can be an issue depending on what engine, headers and valve covers but it's all been done so there are fixes out there. You could do a warmed up turbo slant! Try the slant six forum. Great bunch on that site and some damn fast /6's. The little leaning tower of power can be made to run.

A bracket racer 6 is a bad *** don't let the bigger is better folks talk you into swaps for an 8 ...before you scrap that drive train vin code it first... mopar made a limited amount of race only 6 cylinders some were aluminium blocks if it's a number matching factory setup it would be worth a fortune and set up right would be hard to beat in the 1/8 mile because inline 6's turn up fast and are light... just know what you have then decide.... could be junk with out pulling numbers and some research

the torsion bars in 6 cars are drag racing gold to get that weight transfer...

**** can the 6 cylinder, throw it in a ditch and don't look back. reliable, but they are turds. with the money it would cost to build it and make it respectable, you could build 2 V8's or one really bad *** 360 that would clean its clock
