Looking for suggestions on a decent priced bench top blast cabinet with spray gun inside. All I will be using it for is smaller pieces. I am looking at some of the 2' wide cabinets in particular. Looking for something that doesn't require some huge shop air compressor. This will be going into my work shop in the garage. Any suggestions on previous experience would be appreciated. Hoping Donny will see this and have the perfect recommendation. Haha

Bench blasters use a ton of CFM. It's just a contained media blaster. That being said, they're very useful. Don't know how big of compressor you have, but I have a 3' x 3' bench blaster and it gives my 80 Gallon 2 stage compressor quite a workout. Works fine, just kicks over the compressor quite a bit. I do have a good air/oil water and desiccant dry air system. Small compressor I could see you running out of punch (cfm) easily, as well as getting moisture clogging up the media, because the compressor is constantly working and the build up of condensation in the tank from that comes right out your air line.

I was thinking of something small like this one. Not quite to a point where I need a 3' by 3'. Just not sure if something like this one is worth the money or puts out enough pressure to do much. http://t.harborfreight.com/garage-shop/blast-cabinets/abrasive-blast-cabinet-42202.html

Anything that doesn't fit in that I can take out to be blasted. I live in a small town and I am getting tired of going out of town to have small pieces blasted.

Can't help you there Plum...Don't know anything about that blaster and I stay way away from Harbor Freight. I bought mine from TP Tools and it's american made:

Looks to have about the same air requirements as that one. Regardless of which booth blaster you bought, the real important part is making sure your compressor is up to the task of running it. A buddy of mine that restores Vintage snowmobiles bought a blast cabinet at a local chain store last year, and I tried to warn him his little 35 Gallon Central Pneumatic compressor wasn't going to cut it. Well, after spending a hour just trying to blast a 3" x 3" A Arm, that cabinet just sits in the corner of his garage and he runs over to use mine every so often.

That is kind of what I am worried about. I am trying to avoid buying a massive air compressor. I was hoping to find something that could use my 33 gallon 165psi Craftsman that I have at the house. Moving as much as I do with the Air Force, I am trying not to set up anything too permanent for the time being, since I could be out of here at any time. Thanks for the input though. Would definitely like to find out all of this before I spend the money.

Hey prop, TP tools looks pretty good, I like the USA products.

I have a TP blaster too, one size smaller than yours Prop. It also gives my 80 gal comp a workout. Another consideration with a blaster is make sure you have a filter/water separator on it before the cabinet. Otherwise you media will clump and stop coming out the nozzle. You might be able to get by with the smaller blaster and compressor but it will only work for short blasts and you will have to wait for the compressor to catch up.

haha, no recommendations from me, I only deal with industrial size stuff, can't get anything like what I use at Harbor Freight. In fact, I see what they sell, and laugh, really, they rape anyone that buys blasting media from them, RAPE!

Haha, I should have used a better example from somewhere else. Just so everyone knows, I do not buy anything from Harbor Freight nor was I going to buy that blast cabinet. Just wanted to use it as an example for the size and type I was looking at. I did find some good info on a website that breaks some of this stuff down a little better for dummies like me. http://www.mediablastauto.com/faq-small-air-compressors.asp
There seemed to be a lot of good stuff on that website.

Hehehehe...Spokesperson is a paid actor. They are not affiliated with the product, nor do they endorse or necessarily use the product for any personal means.

Just messin plum, I hear where you're coming from.

I'm a fan Dave. Started out by buying a couple Martin body hammers from them years back. Nothing but good experiences buying a lot of different things from them since then. Quality stuff, including the blaster. Great place for auto body supply equip.

So, looking at this again.

I'm not the original poster but no sense making a new thread for the same topic.
I am going to buy a cabinet for my new shop and it seems I could do better with a pressure fed cabinet rather than a siphon type cabinet. Pressure is going to cost a lot more but I'm looking for speed , I need to get things done fast in the new shop.

Kind of looking at the bad boys blasters, pressure feed units.

The bad boys blasters web site is clumsy to navigate but I found a direct pressure feed cabinet I like, Model BB-1150XLD.

Pressure feed worth the $?

They say it's 4 to 5 times faster than suction (siphon feed) and more efficient use of shop air.

Those look great. I have a 48' Tip I was going to move into my new garage, but I might just have to look into these.

Anyone have one yet?

You can see it's got a regular pressure blast tank off to the side. I believe the collector is positioned over the top of the blast tank so it can be dumped into the tank. Assuming it's a bag or sock style collector and the fines and dust go to the bag and heavy enough particles settle to the bottom and can be reused, not certain though. I think for the most part you have to dump the hopper bottom of the cabinet into a pail and feed that media back into the pressure tank.

There are more commercial grade pressure units out there that have auto recirc back to the pressure tank, but they cost a lot more than this unit.

TPTools has the "Skat Blast" line of cabinets????? Sounds like a really bad ****.
