Been reading various opinions about ceramics from TTI here and other places but I noticed they are pretty expensive and require a mini starter

I can buy a new set of Dougs D452's for 543.00 here locally and will probably still have to get a small starter, may go with the MSD

any reason not to buy the Dougs?

I just went through the exact same dilemma and after discussion with Propwash about the fitment and quality of Doug's I went that route for the same reason... I was able to get the Doug's for less than half the cost of TTI and they appear to be of great quality and fit well with no alterations (already have a mini starter)

There's no doubt TTI is the gold standard and quality and appearance you get your money's worth but IMO if you're looking to save a few bucks and still be happy I'd lean towards the Doug's

Headman makes a real nice ceramic coat header for the B Bodys also.My pair cost me $450.00 and they are just as nice as my Doug's.

What mini starter do you have? Advanced that also sells the Dougs has an MSD that says it is more compact but does not actually call it a "mini". I am trying to get all my mods done before the first cruise in come April.

Yeah, just looked, they are $426 from Jegs, will they work with the stock starter, manual steering and 4 speed?

I am leaning toward these now as I want to get some electric exhaust bypass cutouts.

They look nice!

I'll dig through my receipts and try to remember that I bought last summer. Sounds like mine though it's not more compact and not what I'd call mini but high torque. Also there's posts around specifying that certain years of Dodge Dakota's (or Durango's?) with the 5.9 have a very compact high torque started that works for our BB's

Technical guy at Jegs said I could keep my original starter with the coated Hedmans so I may not even need to know now.

TTI. QTP. Dynamax Superturbo. Mini starter.

I am not pleased with my Doug's at all. I have the ceramic coated headers, they have never seen bad weather (drag car only) and they are rusty. Not sure why they rusted but I could have bought raw, painted them to end up with the same quality. Would have cost less too.

Another question I have...I see the hedman elite have the thicker steel (if I'm reading rite) on the tubes of the two and thicker flanges and tubes than super comps (what I'm using now)...would that be noticeable on under the hood heat and noise?

I have a few sets of tti headers. On two of them I had to put a dent on # 5 so I could get a spark plug socket on. My last set was a budget build so I got the headman's They are thicker than ttis and I did not have to put a dent anywhere. It remains to be seen how the ceramic holds up.

Is that the price for raw headers or ceramic that you are quoting? I am leaning towards Doug's myself as well. They are less expensive than the hooker super comps and a lot less than TTI. Locally for me to buy TTI's it's almost $1300. For the polished ceramics. $630 for the Doug's. This is Canadian dollars.

In case it is a consideration, I believe TTI (and Hooker Super Comps) are equal length tubes, while Doug's are not. That explains some of the fitment issues. A buddy has Doug's on his Charger and they fit good, and he is not concerned with the possible HP loss of unequal tubes.
I used Hooker Super Comps on my Cuda. Bought raw, "massaged" for spark plug clearance, then had ceramic coated. I think I was still less expense than TTI.

An additional consideration is spark plug access--due to limited access to the angled #6 plug on Edelbrock RPM's, I had to go with TTI. Also, look into the Powermaster mini-starter; it guarantees NO HEAT-SOAK which CAN BE a problem with TTI's since the tubes only clear the starter by about 1/2" and upon switching off the engine, the heat rises directly to the starter--in addition to buying this starter, I wrapped it with a flexible starter shield from DEI; no problems. Good Luck!

I have Dougs 452's with Edelbrock RPM heads and do not have that issue. There is plenty of room with the angled plugs. Spark plugs can be tricky to get out with any header set up and to me the Dougs are fairly easy. 5 minutes, all the plugs are out all out. Also haven't had any corrosion issues either, but I had mine black ceramic coated locally, so I cannot speak from the coated Dougs. I have a mini starter from 440 Source, fits well, not wrapped and no heat sync issues. Flips over the 512 just fine. The Hooker Super Comp dyno headers that were drilled for the Exhaust gas temp probes made 7 more horsepower at dyno vs when the Dougs were strapped on for the last 3 pulls.

Thanks Propwash--I stand corrected. That's a great feature of this site--so many participants with 1st hand experience dealing with problems that many of us will encounter and others have already conquered.
