difference between a '64 Belvedere, and a '64 Fury??

Hi. I'm not new to Mopars, but I am new to this site and early B-bodies. I was more of an A and E-body guy when I was active in the hobby before I had to take a long hiatus. Now I'm looking to get back in to the hobby and going with the E-body is looking to be far too pricey. So I'm looking for something else and I have always liked the '64 Plymouths ever since I saw a super-sweet '64 Max Wedge Sport Fury at the '85 Nats.

When it comes to the early B's, I have to admit I need some education. To me, the '64 Belvedere and '64 Fury look like essentially the same car. When looking at pictures of them the only visual difference that I see is in the design and shape of the body side moulding - other than that they look almost identical to me. For that matter, the '64 Savoy looks very similar too - except that it has dual headlights vs the quad headlights of the Belvedere and Fury. So we have the '64 Belvedere, Fury, Sport Fury and Savoy all looking very similar to my un-educated eye. So can someone "school" me on what the essential differences are between the different models? Is it similar to a price-class and trim thing like with the later Belvedere, Belvedere II, Satellite and GTX?

They are all the same body! Only difference is the trim level!

So what is the trim leve order? Is the Savoy the base model and then progresses up through the Belvedere, Fury and then to the Sport Fury as the top trim level?

Sorry I'm wrong. In 64 2-doors
All Savoys were sedans.
Belvedere came both in sedan and hardtop.
Fury and S/Fury only hardtop and vert.
I know Belves and Furys had 4 head lights. Thought Savoys did too.

Okay, so for '64 two-doors:

Savoys were post sedans
Belvederes were either post sedans or hardtops
Fury, Sport Furys were either hardtop or 'verts

64 Hemi cars were single headlamp. Same grille, with a cut out section covering a trimmed headlamp bezel. Savoy, no body side moldings or center trunk molding. Same horizontal trunk molding as a Fury. All Max wedge sedans were Savoys. Belvedere, thin body side moldings. horizontal trunk trim stamped "Plymouth". Sedan or H/T. All max wedge Belvedere's were H/T. Fury, H/T or convertible, wide side body trim. Note the holes in the body are a different height than a Belvedere. The trim can be mounted in the Fury holes with retainer modification. Sport Fury, higher interior trim level, buckets, console. All 4 door body's can be built into 2 door sedans by using the 2 door doors, moldings and interior trim. The B-Pillar needs to moved back and the 1/4 panel patched in the rear door area using the rear door parts. H/T doors can be converted to sedan doors.

I'm not sure if these details were completely mentioned, but Savoys have Plymouth on the trunk lid in individual letters while the Belvederes and Furys have a trim piece with Plymouth stamped in it. The fenders on Savoys have Plymouth script emblems while the Belvedere fenders have Belvedere script emblems.

I know about the steering wheel differences, too if anyone is interested.

I didn't know the '64 Belvedere Maxies were all hard tops - thanks dvw.

Thanks everyone for the helpful info on the differences between the models - lots of good info thrown out there by you guys.

Which model seems to be the most popular among enthusiasts - Savoy, Belvedere or Fury? How about Sedan, hardtop or convertible? Assuming I decided to go shopping for one, what model might I expect to be the most common out there (which should increase the odds of finding a decent one)?

Fury's seem to be for sale more often. Could be they were more expensive to start with and were better kept. Personally I prefer the Belvedere trim. The Fury trim is too "thick". It's all personal preference. I own a Belvedere sedan but I think the H/T is better looking.

After some of these responses I'm a little confused, what's the difference between a hard top and a sedan. I always thought they meant the same thing, basically a non convertible. Does the window post change things?

Sedan has frames in the doors around the windows. 64/65 H/T also have a different roof.
