I stumbled upon this guy and I have been looking for one for the house to do a lil side action ....front end, minor engine stuff just need a good rust buster....ad is as follows Air Compressor 5hp single phase 220 60 gallon tank up right in good shape Campbell hasufeld 350.00 Don't know much about the maker/model, its in my budget and I don't feel like spending on a sears or harbor freight and end up returning it dissapointed so any help , suggestions, opinions or advice is appreciated
thanks.Pat air.jpg

This is nothing great, If you are going to use air tools, you need a duel stage Compressor. I have a Ingersoll rand 2 stage. I run it like crazy. just my opinion. Single stage units just run ouit of gas too quick.

just a note this is going to be used only on a few Saturdays its not going to see work everyday its just for small car repairs like my front end rebuild and my disc brake conversion and of course family repairs.....

Probably depends on how much and how long at a time you are using it. But zip some bolts loose, OK, air some tires, OK. cut off some exhaust, OK break apart some front end bolts OK, take off lugnuts, OK. etc. I've done these things with a much lesser compressor.

If you are doing body work, painting a large area, and supposedly small sand blasting not OK unless you're like me and don't mind breaks and having a beer or a smoke one in awhile. I've read over and over painting, blasting (Donny), and body work stuff requires way more $$ than anything like that

If your budget is $350 you can probably do worse but see what the model number is and see what the cost new and what are comparable models

If you can afford to spend a lot more go for it

What's the CFM at 90 PSI?

- - - Updated - - -

I have a 32 CFM and an 8.5 CFM.

The 32 kicks ***, the 8.5, not so much and is borderline for my needs.

I stole the 32 for $750 and got a good deal on the 8.5 for $300.

If you're getting more than 8.5 CFM for $300, you're doing pretty good.

The 10.5 CFM at Lowes is $900 new.

If it is and oilless compressor, I would pass. There is nothing wrong with these smaller compressors for what you need, but the oilless ones are junk.

I just a Kobalt 60 gallon from Lowes, 220, single phase, use's 10/30 synthetic oil, and is 11.7 cfm at 90psi all for 475. I like it and now selling my oil less craftsman.....they are LOUD!!!

Go down about 15 threads and read my 2 posts on buying a compressor. That motor looks like a "cheater 5HP." How electric motor manufacturers get by with rating their products at peak power is beyond me. A real honestly rated 5HP 240 volt single phase motor/compressor should pull about 25 amps and put out 18 to 20 CFM.

In addition the pictured compressor is used, you have no idea how hard it was used in the past and to be looks like it has been mounted on the wood base for a while. You can buy used and get a good industrial 2 stage compressor for not a whole lot more than the asking price on this one. I would rather have too much air compressor than not enough. Personally I would never buy a compressor with a 3450 RPM motor. Just my thoughts...

You want enough CFM to run an impact tool (rattle gun) Don't get one get those real noisey ones, it will drive you crazy!..........................MO

Ok found this 2 stage Rick and company.....any thoughts 00E0E_e9wlQjZAsRx_600x450.jpg00d0d_fJkFk8kQZ8R_600x450.jpg

Trying to figure out the compressor on it...1 1/2 HP, 10 amp on 230, 2 strikes against it.... right RPM's on the motor if the compressor pulley is right size. I can't say, don't know what compressor that is but I think I would keep looking. For a 2 stage that 1.5 HP motor seems small...
